2020 Toyota Supra engine is significantly underrated

The 2020 Toyota Supra marks the return of an icon, but the car has been rather polarizing. Its styling has been hit or miss with many sports car fans and now that reviews of the car have been published, some are still on the fence about the Supra. You can check out our review of the 2020 Toyota Supra for more details on the vehicle.Car and Driver says that in its testing, it found that the 2020 Supra ran from 0-60 mph in 3.8-seconds and did the quarter mile in 12.3-seconds at 113 mph. That performance led the publication to think that something was afoot as it pushed the Surpa into BMW M2 Competition and BMW M4 territory.

The thought was that the engine was underrated and made more power than Toyota and BMW (the maker of the engine) claimed. Toyota said that the 2020 Supra makes 335 horsepower and 365 lb-ft of torque. What Car and Diver found on the dyno is that the Supra made 339 hp and 427 lb-ft of torque at the wheels.

Those are better numbers than Toyota said the car would make at the crank. The extra power accounts for the impressive performance of the 2020 Supra. The dyno run was made using an 8-speed automatic transmission in the transmission's 5th gear. C&D says that the car was unable to reach redline in 6th gear.

The question for sports car fans is will the increased power over what was promised lead them to buy the car. The controversial styling remains along with the fact that it is a two-seater and is expensive. The price and daily livability might make the 2020 Supra a hard sell to most people who are interested in the sports car.
