2019 Subaru Forester lands at dealers later this year

Subaru has rolled out the all-new 2019 Forester SUV at the New York International Auto Show. The new Forester will land at Subaru dealers around the country later this year. There are some significant updates to the Forester that Subaru says make it the most capable, versatile, and roomy Forester to date.

One big change is the move to an enhanced direct-injection 182hp 2.5L four for all models. That four is the Boxer type you expect from Subaru and has auto stop/start technology and is paired with a standard Lineartronic CVT transmission. All versions of the Forester also have standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive.

The 2019 Forester will be offered in standard, Premium, Limited, touring, and a new Sport trim level. All trims come standard with EyeSight Driver Assist Technology. The Touring version also gets exclusive DriverFocus tech that can alert a fatigued or distracted driver.

That updated 2.5L four makes 182hp and 176 lb-ft of torque, a bump from the 170hp and 174 lb-ft of torque the outgoing Forester offered. Sport and Touring models also get a manual mode for the CVT that simulates a 7-speed manual transmission with paddle shifters behind the steering wheel. Fuel economy is estimated at 33 mpg on the highway with official EPA certification pending.

The new Sport model builds on the standard equipment of the Premium trim and adds a sport grille in gloss black, black 18-inch wheels and a rear roof spoiler. Orange accents are on the black under-guards and roof rail mounts. Inside the interior is a unique dark gray material with orange stitching and accents. Pricing and exact availability will be announced later.
