2019 Subaru BRZ Series.Gray leads punchy coupe into new model year

Subaru has priced up the 2019 BRZ, including revealing aa new, limited edition version of the punchy little sports coupe. Headed to dealerships this fall, the 2019 BRZ climbs $200 over the last model year, though Subaru has upgraded the cabin tech to salve the increase.

Three variants will be offered, kicking off with the 2019 BRZ Premium at $25,759 plus destination. It will get LED headlamps, a reversing camera, power locks and mirrors, power windows with auto up/down, remote keyless entry, and welcome lighting. Inside, there'll be dual USB ports, black seats with red contrast stitching, and leather trim on the door panels, center dash, shifter trim, and parking brake lever.

The steering wheel has leather trim, too, along with controls for the cruise control and audio system. Incline Start Assist is standard as well, helping hill starts with the default six-speed manual transmission. A six-speed automatic is an option.

In the middle, the 2019 BRZ Limited starts at $28,645. It adds LED fog lamps and dual-zone automatic climate control, together with keyless access and push-button start. The front seats get Alcantara inserts and leather bolsters, along with dual-mode heating; there's also the BRZ logo in red embroidery on the backs.

Limited trim also gets a 4.2-inch color display next to the tachometer, that can show metrics like lateral-g, braking force, and steering angle. It also offers a stopwatch for lap times. An optional Performance Package – priced at $1,195 – available only for the Limited trim with manual transmission throws in Brembo four-piston calipers and rotors at the front, and dual-piston calipers and rotors for the rear brakes.

It also adds SACHS Performance shocks and 17-inch black aluminum alloy wheels. If you really want the most eye-catching car, though, you probably want the 2019 BRZ Series.Gray. Priced from $30,140, it's based on the Limited trim with Performance Package, but comes with exclusive Cool Gray Khaki paint and 17-inch black alloy wheels.

The exterior mirrors are finished in Crystal Black Silica, and the BRW and Subaru badging is also black. Inside, the special edition gets new dash and door trim in Grand Luxe with red stitching. Only 250 of the gray cars will be produced for the 2019 model year.

As for infotainment, the BRZ Premium gets a 6.2-inch touchscreen, CD player, and eight speakers. The BRZ Limited upgrades that to a STARLINK 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Subaru's STARLINK apps, SiriusXM Traffic, and Travel Link. There's also NFC to pair up your device, and voice-controlled navigation.

What isn't changing for the 2019 model year is the engine. That's still a 2.0-liter Boxer with 205 horsepower in the manual version, and 200 horsepower in the automatic. A limited-slip differential is standard.
