2019 Ram HD truck gets 6.7L Cummins diesel with 1000 lb-ft of torque

Ram has unveiled the 2019 Ram HD trucks and the big claim to fame for the rides is a revised 6.7L Cummins inline-six turbo-diesel engine. That engine has a massive amount of torque at 400hp and 1000 lb-ft. A standard duty version of that engine makes 370hp and 850 lb-ft of torque.

A Ram 3500 regular cab 4x2 long-box dually fitted with the Max Tow package can tow 35,100 pounds and carry a 6570-pound payload. Along with that new and more powerful engine, the truck also as air springs and high-strength steel in its build. A full 98.5% of the truck is high-strength steel.

The truck rides on stronger and lighter front and rear axles and has progressive springs with upgraded bushings. Rear air springs are available with three modes with normal/payload detecting the load and adjusting springs accordingly. Trailer mode lowers the bed an inch to keep the trailer level, and Bed mode lowers the bed to make connecting the trailer easier.

The body is restyled, and while it uses lots of high-strength steel, the truck uses some aluminum to shave 143 pounds compared to the previous version. The bodywork of the Ram HD trucks shares nothing in common with the normal Ram 1500. Inside the truck is all new with electric heating elements for the HVAC system and a bunch of USB ports along with a large Tesla-like center screen for Nav.

The base system has a 5-inch screen, an 8.4-inch is, and the big one seen in the image here is an optional 12-inch unit. Buyers not wanting a diesel can opt for a 6.4L V8 making 410hp and 429 lb-ft of torque. The Ram HD will also come in a Power Wagon version aimed at off-roading complete with a unique suspension and standard winch.
