2019 Mercedes-Benz A-Class Sedan priced for US release
Mercedes-Benz has announced US pricing for the 2019 A-Class Sedan, which is headed to dealerships this year. It's a new effort by the automaker, which despite offering the A-Class since 1997, only now is opting to bring it to North America.
Indeed, it has taken the arrival of a sedan version of the A-Class before Mercedes decided that the car would be suitable for American palates. Announced last year, the handsome four-door will be offered alongside the A-Class hatchback in Europe. The US will only get the sedan, however.
It'll be an important car for Mercedes. The A-Class is expected to be the gateway into the brand for new customers, building on the success of the first-generation Mercedes CLA. That managed to perform well when it came to conquest sales: back in 2017, for example, more than half of all CLA buyers in the US were new to the Mercedes family.
The hope is now that the A-Class accelerates that rate further. To give it a good chance of panning out that way, Mercedes hasn't stinted on technology in the car. Indeed, it'll be among the first to offer MBUX, the new Mercedes-Benz User Experience infotainment system. That has features like intelligent voice control with natural language recognition, along with a redesigned interface, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto.
That'll be standard on the 2019 Mercedes-Benz A220 and A220 4MATIC, as will be a 7-inch digital instrumentation panel and a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment display. A panoramic sunroof will also be standard-fit, as will LED headlamps and taillamps. 17-inch wheels will be fitted, and there'll be dual-zone climate control and a multifunction steering wheel with shift paddles.
Under the hood, both the 2019 A220 and A220 4MATIC will have Mercedes' 2.0-liter inline-4 turbocharged engine. That will output 188 horsepower and 221 lb-ft of torque, and be linked to a 7G-DCT dual-clutch transmission. Fuel economy numbers are yet to be announced. Active Brake Assist, Crosswind Assist, and Hill Start Assist will be standard, as will a brake hold function.
Options will include Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC adaptive cruise control with route-based speed adaptation, active steering assist, and a navigation package. There'll also be the option for hands-free trunk opening, triggered by making a kicking motion under the rear bumper.

A 10.25-inch digital instrumentation cluster and 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen will also be available, as will 64-color ambient lighting and a Burmester Premium Sound System. Heated front seats, multicontour seats, a heated steering wheel, heated and ventilated seats, and a head-up display will be offered, as will wireless phone charging.
When it arrives in dealerships early this year, Mercedes will be charging $32,500 for the A220 Sedan, plus $995 destination. The A220 4MATIC Sedan, meanwhile, will be priced from $34,500, also plus $995 destination.
