2015 Ford Mustang official

The 2015 Ford Mustang has been officially announced, with the auto maker revealing it simultaneously across the globe tonight. With the latest model will come three engine options, with one of them being an environmentally-friendly 2.3-liter EcoBoost offering. This marks 50 years for the "pony car", and in the 2015's design enthusiasts will find elements from the many models that have come before it.

Ford calls it a clean-sheet design, with the 2015 model holding onto some key elements in the Mustang's generational design, among them most notably being the long sculpted hood and the short deck on the rear. A quick look through the gallery shows that it is unmistakably a Mustang, and beyond that drivers will find some new elements. Among the changes to the design is a wider stance that sits lower to the ground, with the roof being lower and the rear fenders and track being wider.

As far as engine options go, in addition to the EcoBoost option mentioned above, the 2015 Mustang will also be available with a powerful 5.0-liter V8 and a 3.6-liter V6. the V8 has both upgraded cylinder heads and valvetrain for over 420 horsepower, while the EcoBoost offers a bit less at around 305 horsepower. The V6 engine option is lowest of them all at 270 lb-ft of torque and 300 horsepower. The manual gearbox is updated over previous models, and the automatic transmission has new shift paddles on the steering wheel.

Ford's Vice President of Global Product Development Raj Nai said: "Ford Mustang inspires passion like no other car. The visceral look, sound and performance of Mustang resonates with people, even if they've never driven one. Mustang is definitely more than just a car – it is the heart and soul of Ford."

The 2015 Ford Mustang will feature an instrument panel badge reading "Mustang – Since 1964" to commemorate its legacy.
