People with serious medical conditions like heart related diseases and uncontrolled diabetes have a hard time living on their own without constant supervision. ZyXEL has announced a new smart home gateway that is designed to provide continuous monitoring of compatible healthcare sensors remotely.
The gateway has a pair of USB ports and can connect to USB broadband modems, Bluetooth, and ZigBee-compliant medical sensors and send real-time data. The system is intended to work with sensors collecting critical information like blood sugar and heart rate readings.
The gateway has dual Ethernet and dual USB ports that support fail over to move from one connectivity option to another in case of failure. The device has an integrated battery good for two hours of wireless use and it features security settings.
