If the rumour weasels are to be believed, Microsoft are ahead of their planned October 16th launch of the next-gen Zune range and are intending to drop the feisty little fella tomorrow.  According to BetaNews, Microsoft are planning a launch event to be held at Redmond, with Bill Gates and Design & Development Chief J. Allard announcing the new hard-drive and flash based tiered range before fighting over who gets first dance with the blushing débutante.

Microsoft Zune 2 and Zune Flash

With availability predicted for November, word is that Gates’n'Co will use the event to announce a beta online Zune community as well as the first ever Microsoft-branded Zune accessories.  So far the devices themselves are believed to come in 80GB (hard-drive) and 4/8GB (flash) capacities with the same WiFi and admirable screen technology as the original Zune.

The inevitable “who cares” backlash has already begun from a globe full of Apple-addicts, but given the Cupertino company’s recent drubbing in the media over how it handled the iPhone firmware upgrade (and bricking debacle) there could be at least a couple of customers considering spite-purchases in Microsoft’s favour.

Go figure they would push to bring out the next generation so that they could yet again try to defeat Apple with their new generation.

I don’t think Microsoft will ever be able to top apple and I think that they should just drop off now since they are the lead of OS’s at the moment.

I’m sure Sony would have preferred that MS stay out of the console market as well.

Microsoft isn’t tiring to out due Apple when it comes to a mp3 player. They are really just proving that they can do it. And has anyone else noticed that the Zune sold a million players faster that Apple was able to sell a million of theirs? Also when Home server 2008 comes out, you be able to set your Zune to link up to your library the second you are within range of your access point. Truthfully once Microsoft gets in full swing with the Zune, only Apple Hippies will be buying the IPod. As much as Apple likes they don’t have all the abilities at their fingers are Microsoft dose. Don’t get me wrong, the IPod is cool and Apple dose have good products. But Microsoft doesn’t have to play any game with Apple, they know they are top dog.
