ZTE ZMAX phablet hits T-Mobile on September 24

ZTE's new ZMAX smartphone has been unveiled and is destined for T-Mobile later this month, bringing with it a phablet-sized display and LTE connectivity. ZTE is hailing the new phone as a budget-friendly phablet for those who aren't keen on paying more for "mainstream brands".

The phone will be available through T-Mobile exclusively starting September 24, something following the maker's launch event in NYC earlier today. With the ZMAX comes an Android offering with a 5.7-inch 720p HD TFT display.

Under the hood lies a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 quad-core 1.2GHz processor alongside Adreno 305 GPU and 16GB of internal storage (microSD slot expansion supports up to 32GB). This is joined by a 3400mAh battery, which ZTE says offers two days of "normal usage" per charge.

Other specs include "nearly stock" Android KitKat 4.4, Dolby Digital sound, a smooth back plate, and an 8-megapixel rear camera/1.6-megapixel front-facing camera. Says ZTE, T-Mobile customers will be able to get the phone for nothing down and $10.50 per month (on a 24-month installment plan) — the ZMAX will arrive at MetroPCS towards the year's end.
