Zotac VR Go backpack PC takes virtual reality gaming on the road

Zotac is mostly known for making small form factor PCs and video cards and it has a nice reputation in those categories. The company has launched something a bit different from what it is known for with a new VR system called the VR Go backpack PC. The machine is at its core a small form factor gaming PC, but it can be fitted into a harness that allows you to carry the system on your back.

Inside the small chassis sits an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 graphics card, a quad-core CPU, nice I/O capabilities and a battery that is hot swappable. The VR Go is able to be used as a normal PC when not gaming on the go. The challenge with SFF systems is always cooling, especially when they have desktop grade graphics cards inside.

One side of the VR GO has the ports needed to connect your VR headset with connectivity options including a HDMI output, dual USB 3.0 ports, and a power connector on top. The removable battery pack allows the machine to operate away from an outlet. It's unclear exactly how large that battery pack is or how long it might last.

Other connectivity options include three more USB 3.0 ports, SD card reader, two more HDMI outputs, two DisplayPort outputs, dual Gigabit Ethernet, and a pair of 3.5mm headphone inputs. Hardware includes an Intel Core i7 processor, dual DDR4 SODIMMS, a M.2 SSD, WiFi, and the GTX 170 graphics card. A bay for a single 2.5-inch HDD or SSD is available. Pricing is unannounced and availability is similarly unknown other than a Q4 2016 range. I wonder if gamers are ready to wear a PC on their back.
