Zapper taps iCloud for custom remote sync

VooMote has added iCloud support to its Zapper iOS remote control system, making synchronizing custom layouts for complex A/V kit straightforward across multiple devices. The upgrade to the Zapper system - which we reviewed back in February - means households with multiple iPhones, iPod touches and iPads can all be kept up to date with your latest macros and layouts, rather than having to recreate them on each unit.

Given the increasing popularity of turning smartphones and tablets into universal remotes, that's no small improvement. Previously, if you had multiple Zapper IR adapters, you'd have to set them up individually: no great headache with one or two, but more of a chore if you add new kit to a multi-remote system.

With iCloud sync, however, setup on one device can be pushed to multiple others, as long as they're logged into the same account. We've already seen iCloud used for Apple's own email, contacts and media, but the company also opened up the APIs to third-party developers to access.

The VooMote Zapper is available for order in multiple color options, priced at $69.95.
