Zap Sparkee EV heads to China

China is one of the most polluted countries in the world. The amount of pollution in the air in major cities is so bad that it can cause illness for people. Pollution in some major cities is bad enough that a fog often sits over the city, blocking out the sun.

China has promised to take steps to reduce the amount of pollution it produces and improve the air quality in its cities. A company called Zap has announced a new EV that it will be offering in China that can help with the pollution issues. Zap has teamed up with Jonway Auto to offer a new EV city car in China called the Sparkee.

The little city car looks a lot like a Smart car and will be offered in two models. The two models differ in the type of batteries they use. A Sparkee with lead acid batteries promises a range of 120km. The other version of the car uses lithium batteries and can travel for 180km per charge. Both cars will qualify for a signify in China of 30,000 RMB, or about $5,000.

The company hopes to sell the car to the government agencies in China. Currently government vehicles are prohibited from driving on Red Alert days to reduce pollution, an electric vehicle that doesn't pollute would presumably be able to drive on those days with no penalties. The Sparkee will range in price for $7000 to $12,000 depending on motorize and battery type.
