YouTube Live Streaming trial kicks off

YouTube has flirted with live streaming before now, using the technology for some high-profile events over the past year or so, but the Google-owned company is now looking to broaden that.  They're kicking off a trial of the YouTube Live Streaming platform, initially with Howcast, Next New Networks, Rocketboom and Young Hollywood, but – assuming all goes to plan – with wider aspirations.

The scale of those aspirations isn't being spelled out in so many words – YouTube is just saying "our partners worldwide" – but the minimum specs required for taking part would certainly fall within the remit of most regular YouTube users.  Either a normal webcam or a USB/FireWire camera could be used, with the live stream integrating with a new live comments module for real-time discussion with viewers.
