YouTube lands rights to stream live sports

YouTube is hands down the leader in online video with the lion's share of the video watchers online flocking to the site. Despite the huge amount of traffic YouTube generates the firm is still not able to generate the kind of revenue that matches its traffic.

To do this YouTube has been in talks with TV and Movie networks to bring films and live sports to the YouTube network. YouTube has announced that it has landed its first rights to stream live sporting events. Before you get too excited, the sporting events aren't things that most of us in America are interested it.

No NFL, NBA, or MLB sports here, YouTube will be streaming the Indian Premiere League cricket games. I know it's a bit of a letdown for most of us, but I guess you have to start somewhere. If you happen to be interested in cricket, this is great news. The game seems to me to be a cross between croquet and baseball.
