Now with more money under their belly, Chad Hurley and Steve Chen uploaded a video on YouTube with messages to Tube’s community. They looked happy and certainly richer!

If they’re really so grateful they should share the joy. I’d love a 0.0005% (~$82,500) slice of that pie.

I think it’s a big mistake for google to buy YouTube. YouTube are not profitable

“YouTube had recently received US$11.5 million in venture capital funding, but its revenue or whether it was profitable is unknown.”

No way is it a mistake, it was the top video site on the internet, it was trouncing google video. But you are right firefox, it wasn’t profitable, I actually think that was known, but nearly all of these internet companies don’t make profit for years. Look at amazon, it was rising during the dot com bust, not making a penny, but once it got itself really established, tons of profit. What they do have though is control over a huge percentage of user created videos and content. Google was smart buying them before they were profitable because once it was profitable it would cost twice as much to purchase. Yet it was also smart to sell, because now the founders don’t have to assume the financial risk anymore, and they are still in charge and oh yeah, 1.6 billion! More money than any of us will ever see, spend, ever be in charage of, combined and for several generations. It was smart all around.

I agree with Chris…we’ll start seeing Google Adsense everywhere on YouTube.
