808 takes 8MP cristal clear… and is cheaper too, but people buy apple because cool marketing even if the finish of iPhone5 is cheap now…

The Lumia 920 is likely to be on par with the iPhone in that situation. No trumping! It has standard sensor pixel sizes but I don’t think its capable of the pixel oversamoling that the iPhone is doing in low light so it could lag the iphone5 where you are doing low light shots with moving subjects. Both, of course are going to be excellent camera phones.

You’re right in a sense. But as any device user will tell you, the value of my device goes down if people publish false information about it. I can’t help but feel bad for my friends who buy into this scam too, and have no way to convince them but try to correct things in the community.
So, yes, I still enjoy my N8 every day, but would prefer to think that not everyone is a misinformed dummy. You wouldn’t sit still if food producers and other advertising lies were published would you, if your friends and neighbours were listinging to it?

While it’s true that iPhone didn’t lead the way, neither did Nokia. Resampling is not new science in digital raster mathematics. both of these and many other companies can make use of this without legal fears, I’m sure, as long as they implement it in new ways.

Have you tried The 808 with Belle FP2? Mine is like a new phone now and Symbian runs at lightning speed. The phone is also the perfect size for your pocket and not chunky apart from a small camera bulge which actually makes it easier to hold in your hand.

The 808 has had some major updates since launch, so if your comments are based on a launch version with early software, you should try the phone again before slagging it off. I’ve had iPhones and android phones but I can honestly say that an 808 on Belle FP2 is the best phone I’ve ever had.

The subsequent sentence says “that’s likely…” referring bak, and uses the comparative “more”. Because: 1) it doesn’t improve low-light performance. That’s like resizing my pic in Paint.NET and saying low-light is improved because you can’t see as much noise.
2) It’s two pixel oversampling.
3) Most phones do this but don’t force you in to 4MP mode because of light.

This doesn’t make the iPhone 5 any better at low-light.
It is simply forcing you to resize (oversampling) to 4MP. The same as if you manually took a 4MP photo. Simply because if you were to see the 8MP photo, you would see the noise when you zoom in. Now you just don’t see anything when you zoom in (fuzzy/pixelated).
You would get the same effect by resizing in Paint.NET too.

Also it’s only two pixel oversampling.

Producing a 4MP image from an 8MP sensor means each pixel is being generated from two sensor pixels, not four. If it was oversampling each pixel from four pixels then it’s either re-using pixels or it’s generating 2MP images. Do the Maths. 808: ~35MP/5MP = ~7 sensor pixels per PureView pixel. iPhone5: 8MP/4MP = 2 sensor pixels per Apple pixel.
I’m keeping my PureView for the moment…

The Lumia 920 will only trump it with subjects that don’t move. Stabilisaztion is only applied to whole-frame movement, not subjects within the frame.

“combine 4 pixels into one” If there’s 2×2 oversampling going on we’d see 2MP photos, not 4MP. Maybe they’re upscaling after procesing. SOme thoughts (and comparisons with Nokia products) here.

Pixel oversampling and binning is a Nokia innovation. And the improvement from 8 mp data to 4 mp cannot be better than 1.4 x in noise reduction. In extreme low light, this improvement may not be enough. Nokia Lumia 920′s Pureview is a different implementation.. oversampling possible only with a very fast sensor and optically stabilised optics system. Sorry Apple, even in copying Pureview, you are off the mark. What’s happening there? The awful maps in iOS 6, then this? Fans are kind of finicky, soon enough they will know where real talent lies..

HTC got inspired (copied) from the design style, materials of Lumia series and now Iphone got inspired (copied) from the pureview technology of 808.

Good job Nokia…keep the innovations rolling…

(P.S. i dont have issues with others copying the ideas or designs from Nokia…its Nokia’s work to check if they see any potential patent frauds…but I definitely think Nokia is doing a great job to bring new (and existing) technologies to mobile phone market…I think its a real innovation…and It deserves kudos from all the tech blogs…which unfortunately most of the blogs don’t do that….
