Loves it.

Android ICS + minimal carrier bloatware = Nexus.
Plus, “Samsung Galaxy S III” just doesn’t have the same “I am awesome.” name as “Samsung Galaxy Nexus”. It sounds like it should have one of those commercial effects of like…”SAMSUNG” (shot of phone) “GALAXY” (shot of phone) “NEXUS” (change to a third shot of the phone). “S III” can’t really do that.

And what other phone has that badge of “First phone to get/come with ICS”? (Unless I’m forgetting something big, in which case, I’m quite sure someone will correct me.)

Little ole Sprint? Your joking right? They have the most spectrum out of any WSP, its just tied up in 3G and Wimax. And because its CDMA its slow as crap. Edge on GSM might as well be CDMA 3G. Verizon 3G is only slightly better. I feel bad for you lol, I wouldn’t be able to stand those selections.

Just because Verizon is the best for him doesn’t mean it is for everyone. He didn’t say anything about it being so good that everybody and their mama should switch to Verizon.

Since you want to talk about the awesome amazingness that is AT&T. Let me tell you how they suck, at least for me anyway.

I live in a semi-rural area. Do you know who has 3G here? Verizon and Sprint. AT&T has only Edge. So no, AT&T is not better. At least where I am concerned. The closest big city to me FINALLY has 3G. No faux g yet for us.

Where you aware of the fact that AT&T has a smaller 3G footprint than even little ‘ole Sprint?

So you are telling us what we want? How do you know what we want? You sound worse than most TV commercials (“Buy it now!”). You haven’t even indicated that you have tested an S III, and you are already vouching for it. What do you call this if not pushing / hard selling? You are predicting that this must be a great product based on brief info. You don’t know if it is buggy or has flaws, and you are already telling us to buy it. And then comparing a phone that is currently selling at $399., that is proven and available now, to some phone that will be at least 50% more expensive, not proven, unknown specs and details. You are giving slashgear a bad name, and shame on slashgear to label this as a *Featured article.

My galaxy S locked up while I was in the middle of a technical interview. Took me 5 ish minutes to pull the battery, boot the piece of trash back up, and get back on the call. Utterly unacceptable, and it wasn’t a rare occurence. This kind of crap happened all the time. GPS? Forget about that. Bluetooth? Forget about that too.

I guess galaxy s IIIII 4g LTE evo x2 phones are great if you work at a grocery store and you don’t really give a crap about the constant glitches, horrible battery life, and abandonment within 6 months (sorry but getting an android update 6 months late isn’t ‘support in my book).

I have a real job, so I’ll stick with trusting google and apple to write the software. I don’t really care about having 300 cores and being able to play angry birds at 200 billion FPS.

That’s your loss for choosing a crappy carrier that didn’t give you updates for your Galaxy S then. You also have the option of installing a stable custom ROM made by SMART people who put in many, many hours making sure that their release is stable and functional, as well. If you want to stick with vanilla Google experience that’s your prerogative but to discount Galaxy phones just because a bad experience with your carrier is absurd. Samsung put in a lot more effort than Google do to improve the phone experience, the functionality of the stock camera app is just one place to look for among many, and if you don’t like TouchWiz launcher you have a plethora of others on the market to choose from..

The Galaxy Nexus is definitely inferior to the SGSII in every way except for the software, which is a mute point as soon as you upgrade the SGSII to ICS. I know because I compared both for about a month. Now of course mentioning the GN in the same breath as the SGSIII will be insulting the SGSIII.
The GN is a great phone but a big step back compared to the SGSII, let alone the SGSIII.

Your kidding right? Their plans are more expensive, their phone selection is so-so, their LTE is widespread yes, but its so heavily used that the speeds you get (in my area at least) are essentially hspa+. And if you don’t get LTE, your on one of the worst 3G networks, second only to Sprint. Here’s an example. My iPhone 4 on AT&T consistently got download speeds of 5-5 1/2 mbps. My friends 4S on Verizon got 1 mbps. If he was lucky he’d get close to 2. And I’m talking about with 5 bars. LTE, in my area people generally get around 7-14 ish mbps on Verizon. On At&t Hspa+ I get speeds around 9-10 mbps. LTE? 40+ mbps. And as for call reliablilty, Verizon is only more reliable in 1 out of every 1000 phone calls. That’s widely known. And if you think their better because AT&T’s customer service sucks, your wrong yet again. Neither me, nor any of my friends have had issues with them. In fact, they’ve been nothing short of amazing. Never had an issue with them in the 14 years I’ve been with them. So, please, enlighten me on how Verizon is “simply the best”.

Are you kidding? Galaxy S 1 got upgraded from Eclair to Froyo to Gingerbread and is now even getting a Value Pack update. If you aren’t getting updates, complain to your carrier. It’s the one holding up the updates. And lastly you expose yourself as a hypocrite. You complain about a locked down phone and then praise the iPhone which is even more locked down? My god.

Comparing the GS3 to the Nexus makes absolutely no sense. I had a Galaxy S and it got abandoned at firmware 2.2. GPS never worked. Updates were never released over the air. Who cares about the hardware…the software is all that matters. All of these phones are fast and full of features.

The Nexus beats everything because it gets updates straight from Google and comes with no bloatware. No need to install custom ROMs built by idiots who put giant pink comic sans text all over all of their forum posts.

I will never buy a non-Google Android phone again. I’ve already been burned with two Samsung clones with proprietary, locked firmware, which never got updated, even though there were numerous glitches.

Basically Samsung does not support their product, instead pumping out a bit faster processors and a bit more pixels, hoping that the suckers will keep upgrading to a newer, faster, but just as crappy and just as locked doan phone.

But comparing the photos above, they are still nowhere nearly as well exposed as the iPhone photos. More pixels help with cropping, but the quality of the photos is still marginal.

Stupid headline, BTW.

Verizon has great service, but the fact that they use CDMA is a deal breaker. I travel a lot and usually pick up local SIMS when I’m there. Verizon does over a few “world phones” but it’s a serious lack of options.

Totally agree, do the Math. $400 phone V $200 phone. $50 pre-pay plan V $100 plan (for 2 years) in 6 months you win and can feel good about changing plans or getting another unlocked phone. Maybe the plan amounts are agressive in pre-pay favor but even in 1 year you still win.

I have the ATT Galaxy S2 Skyrocket with 4G-LTE. Thought about the GSM unlocked Nexus for a while, finally got one from a ‘DailySteal (Not the $399 now available but not bad at $458)’. Nexus with ICS is an awesome phone, though the 4.0.4 signal issue didn’t help, neither did the YAKJUXW version and 19250XXKK1 Radio, but so far so good having finally got to YAKJU, IMM76I and 19250XXLA2. I’m not on the road (without WIFI) often so don’t miss the LTE enough to make a difference. Getting the ‘European’ phone functioning on AT&T could have been easier, suspect the ‘Google Play’ version won’t have these problems. Most likely won’t buy a phone that is not Pure Google Again. Galaxy SIII will have Ice Cream Sandwich and be available in the US just about time Jelly Bean makes it to Galaxy Nexus. Given the Skyrocket is still not on ICS you will always be behind until TouchWiz etc are options rather than standard. Galaxy Nexus for me. GSM only of course.

This is kind of pointless to post. You have no idea about the SGIII, and you are already posting it is better than the SGN. This is just YOUR opinion, because the REAL reviews come from US. The ‘END’ user! You guys are just trying to push the sales of the SGIII, because you think it’s going to be so great. I personally don’t pay you guys much attention when it comes to devices, because you are just borrowing the device, and giving it back.

At the end of the day, if you are reading this. Be mindful of these guys pushing you in your decision making when it comes to technology, because they are JUST bloggers. Galaxy Nexus or an SGIII, doesn’t matter. If it’s Samsung, it will produce and perform well for the most part. 12mp, 8mp, 5mp, whatever! Casual picture taking on a phone is good at almost any of those, and the SGN has a GREAT camera! Every time something new gets ready to launch, we see this type of blogging. Pointless, so take it with a grain of salt. Make your own decision, and get what you want. The SGN @ $399, is a WONDERFUL deal, and you are getting STOCK ICS. SGIII will have touchwiz (which I love on my SGNote), so it won’t be stock. End of the day, you can root and put it on there. Be wise in your decision on a phone.

Fact is Verizon is simply the best carrier around, especially if you still have unlimited data. Not about fanboyism, it’s just the best. I agree though, I’m sick of Motorola.

Maybe you shouldn’t be such a carrier fan boy. It was a huge mistake on Verizon’s part to not buy into the Galaxy line. And on the one Galaxy phone they get, the nexus which is supposed to be pure Google and nothing else, they put bloat ware on it. Verizon should just stick with their crappy Motorola phones.

The SGS3 will more than likely be *$800* off-contract. I am one of the many many people who have been on the sidelines… waiting, waiting for the SGS3. But when Google announced their Nexus on sale the other day, the sale price was too good to resist. SGS3 for me? You bet. But not in May. I’ll probably use the Nexus for the next 12 months, and THEN get a SGS3. For $399 or less!
