You only get One Life in this new FPS

The formula for an FPS game is pretty simple. You run around, shoot enemies, die, respawn. Rinse and repeat until the match is done. Right? Well, a new game is looking to change up that formula ever so slightly. The aptly-named title One Life (currently on Steam Greenlight) aims to give players one chance to play their game. Should you die, you will be forever locked out of the game.

If you watch the trailer below, you'll see that there is a bit more to the game than just your run-of-the-mill shooter. The developers have mixed in a variety of survival elements, as well as the ability to take other players prisoner. Imagine that last part for a moment. You're wandering down an alley, trying to keep your guard up, only to find yourself surrounded by a group of other players. You won't win the fight, so you surrender. Now your character is at the mercy of your captors.

The concept isn't exactly new, as we've seen permadeath in games like Diablo, and even in another FPS, Upsilon Circuit. While we don't yet know how the game will pan out, there is one thing that we can be sure of. A lot of people are going to rage when they are finally gunned down.

The good news is that the game will only cost $10. So when your character finally does kick the bucket, you're only out a few bucks, and the hours that you've spent in-game. Personally, I get attached to my in-game characters. I don't think I could handle not only losing my character, but my access to the entire game.

And if you're thinking that you'll just re-purchase the game again, that might be a little tricky. You can't re-purchase the same game twice on a Steam account. You'll need to create an entirely new one, just to play the game again.
