Yelp teams with Hipmunk for in-app hotel reservations

AirBNB sounds (and is) really awesome, but they have a unique set of problems. In some states, listing a room or home on the service means you'll have to jump through bureaucratic hoops and bust through the red tape. Many are turned off by that, leaving would-be renters searching for a hotel room instead. Today, Yelp announces they've teamed up with Hipmunk to provide you with the ability to book a hotel room without ever having to leave Yelp's app.

According to the announcement, Hipmunk will allow Yelp users to book at "tens of thousands" spots across the nation. It's not clear if Yelpers will get access to the entire list of hotel partners Hipmunk has, but it sounds like it.

When you search for hotels via Yelp, you'll now see a "Reserve a Room" button on those hotels available via Hipmunk. When you choose to reserve a room, you're taken to a reservation page within the Yelp app to complete the booking. You'll then get a confirmation email from Hipmunk.

This partnership should provide good synergy for consumers, and is yet another way Yelp is branching out and broadening their scope. It's also their latest effort to combat the ever-expanding list of Google services that step on their toes.

Yelp and Hipmunk also don't have the headaches AirBNB does, and the partnership automatically positions them ahead in some markets.
