Yahoo's Contact Cards feature shows info at a glance

Yesterday, Google announced an update to their Contacts feature, which rolled in a fresh look at some interesting new features. It's great for managing contacts, but what about fining info on people quickly? Today, Yahoo is rolling out Contact Cards for email, which brings up quick-hit info on the person you're corresponding with. When you hover over the name of a person who is included in an email chain, Yahoo might tell you where they work, as well as email info and phone numbers.

Within the Contact Card, you'll also see links to their social profiles if they have them linked. Powered by Xobni technology, those who have their social profiles linked to their email will have that info ready via Contact Cards. Otherwise, you'll see emails and phone numbers associated with that person, as well as a picture or company logo for corporate emails.

The feature add a touch of context to email, and also provides a way to access info quick;y and easily. If you need to message someone in an email chain privately, you can find their contact info a bit faster, now. It's especially handy for finding a phone number on the fly. We like it for quickly adding people to your contacts list.

The feature is rolling out to users in the US now, and is desktop only. Yahoo is billing it as 'Caller ID for your Inbox', which isn't too far off. Nw if they could just set up email-waiting, we'd be in business.
