Xplore Bobcat rugged tablet takes on Panasonic's Toughpad

Xplore has introduced a new tablet that goes toe-to-toe with Panasonic's Toughpad. The Xplore Bobcat is a rugged tablet running Windows 8.1 Pro (Windows 7 is also an option). With the slate comes a body designed to handle a fair amount of abuse, and a design that matches its inherent ruggedness.

The Xplore Bobcat tablet runs an Intel quad-core 1.91GHz Atom E3845 Bay Trail processor alongside 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage (via SSD). This is accompanied by a 10.1-inch IPS display with a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels, 800:1 contrast ratio, and 500-nit brightness.

With the tablet comes a microSD expansion slot and a SIM card slot, a pair of UBS 3.0 ports, and a micro HDMI port for video use. There's a standard 3.5mm headphone jack, an RS-232-ready port, RJ-45 Ethernet, Bluetooth 4.0, 802.11ac WiFi, and GPS.

For those who choose the additional options, the Bobcat can also be had with LTE, NFC, a biometer scanner for additional security, a 1D/2D barcode scanner, CAC reader, and more. Rounding it all out is a decent 8 hours of run time on a charger, with a how-swappable battery being available.

Price starts at $2,199 USD.
