Xiaomi Mi 5 render leaks with an announcement date

A new rendering has been found tucked away on Weibo that claims to show what the Xiaomi Mi 5 looks like. The rendering shows a device that looks like a traditional smartphone or phablet. It does show a physical home button which may double as a fingerprint scanner.

A previous rumor that Xiaomi would be using the slick Qualcomm ultrasonic fingerprint sensors before anyone else may prove to be false after a glimpse at that home button since the ultrasonic sensor doesn't need a sensor or a button to work. This may be an indication that the fancy ultrasonic sensor wasn't ready for use or that Xiaomi just wanted to save some cash on the build.

Along with the rendering of the device turning up also comes rumors of a new unveil date for the phone, January 21. Rumors claim that the smartphone will actually launch in February with no firm date offered at this time.

Other hardware inside the phone is thought to include a 5.2-inch screen and a Snapdragon 820 SoC. Force touch is tipped to be featured in the screen, and the OS should be Android 6.0 right out of the box. The Weibo account that gave up the rendering claims two versions of the device with one priced at $311 and the other at $389.
