The Kinect Sensor actually has the same if not better voice recognition as Siri. Siri processes the information differently, but the Kinect sensor, having an array of microphones and an Xbox to process the input, actually has extremely powerful voice recognition technology. The only difference is that a robot voice does not respond when you talk to your Xbox.

true… however, the xbox live gaming ecosystem is by far head and shoulders above all other competition. PSN, which i also have is a few years behind. I have been a subscriber to LIVE since it debuted on xbox. i have a subscription to netflix, but i use my apple tv to watch content… never wanted to use my xbox to view videos… however with the new dashboard offering a lot of different streaming content, i may buy another box to to use for this purpose alone. meh… who knows?

It concerns me that this is from Microsoft. Will the UI be odd? Will I need too many clicks and taps to get through endless nested menus? Will it crash frequently. Will I get frustrated with it quickly?

XBox TV is a new bundle from Microsoft. Like XBox Kindle bundle :-) Seriously, XBox TV will be Windows Media Center on XBox. Period. It will have a very small acquisition cost $150 and then a perpetual monthly rent in the form of XBox Live subscription fees just for accessing digitial content that are freely available when accessed from a PC or a network connected Blue-Ray player. I personally will never own a product that will charge me a subscription fee for content I can access without it. I cannot believe people are willing to pay for XBox Live just to be able to stream Netflix through XBox.

I am a computer based tv /video person because the web gives me a lot of free tv program viewing and
video content from youtube and other sources that sometimes give you some good information. quality is the main thing Microsoft must have in their video selections and they must enable their desktop PC
customers access to Microsoft video content to be a success because there are many more PC owners than there are xbox gamers Folks if Microsoft tv and video selections are good enough I would not mind paying 10 to 20 bucks a month to access what they have to offer. In the end I believe that is just what Microsoft might do in the future why not if Hula and Netflix and others are making money off
of providing tv / video and music video to folks willing to pay for it microsoft can do it too. I wish there were a cable company that let you choose the shows you want to see instead of giving a person those damn package deals that give you bunch of shows that make you vomit with dis pare. Microsoft Dare to be different let your paying customers chose what they want to see that will work better for you because you wont have to pay for rights to shows that people donot want to see. Microsoft Web TV will then be the Best on the whole web because you allow your customers to pay for and see what they want not for what they donot want. yoo microsoft follow my advice and be the best web tv/ Video source.

A big question is what this will provide to users outside of the US. Boxee, Google TV and other similar services….heck, even Windows Media Center are severely gimped in Canada. I can’t even *get* any programming on Windows Media Center here :(

Does this work if you don’t have Kinect? The distance from my TV to our couch is not the optimum playing distance, so I never bothered getting it.

Because content is king. Whichever company gets the most deals with content providers (*ahem*, Universal studios, sony, warner brothers etc), will run the show. Right now all are scrambling for those deals. Some content providers are wary of deal making with Google.

This is great except that xbox is a noisy power hog. They need a low power “silent” mode… Not sure if xbox has hardware h.264 decoding which would be required. Also have no idea what format xbox movies are streamed in.

The best part, if you have xbox, you have “XBOX TV” so its a win in that regard.

My parents don’t have xbox… My kids don’t have a personal xbox.. so not a win across the board.

I don’t know how many bugs it will have. I have been impressed by Microsoft’s attempts at making a better more reliable product after the XBOX 360 red ring issue was fixed, the Windows Phone ecosystem was fixed, and Windows 7 was launched.

No it’s not. There’s no such thing called xbox tv – the new dashboard is about apps on xbox. Within the new apps, there’re tons of streaming apps which can deliver the traditional TV content to you, in a much better way.
