Xbox One season pass guarantee detailed for Xbox 360 users

Microsoft has taken to the Xbox.com news feed quite a bit lately, clarifying and otherwise tweaking information related to its upcoming Xbox One, such as digital game sharing and Home Gold. Such was the case today, with Microsoft addressing concerns regarding season passes and what happens when Xbox 360 owners upgrade to the next-generation console.

Microsoft has announced what it is calling the Season Pass Guarantee program, which is just as its name suggests – a guarantee regarding season passes. Current Xbox 360 users who purchase a season pass for a game, later on updating to the Xbox One console once it is rolled out, will get a free season pass for that same game on the new console.

The process is automated, with the Xbox 360 owner getting automatic access to the applicable content for the game on the Xbox One, assuming they get the game for that console. Says Microsoft, "some of the biggest publishers ... are lined up for the Season Pass Guarantee program," among them being Ubisoft, Electronic Arts, and Activision.

Some big-name games released this year and next will include exclusive content with a season pass, among them being Call of Duty: Ghosts and Battlefield 4 on both the Xbox One and the Xbox 360. Overall, this means users won't have to fuss with transitioning from one console to the other, dealing with new passes and missing content, instead having it all transition with the gamer automatically.

In case you missed it, it was announced earlier this week that the Kinect is no longer required to use the Xbox One console, instead being an optional accessory in some cases that can be unplugged or completely shut off. Microsoft says this change was to make the transition from the 360 to the newer console more comfortable for those who find always having the Kinect on unnerving.
