Xbox One 1080p SDK to ease 720p woes as sharpening filter dropped

Microsoft's Xbox One has received more than its fair share of bad press due to the few games released with 1080p on PS4 while their console rolled with 720p. Now we're seeing word from Rebellion Games' Jean-Baptiste Bolcato that an upcoming SDK (software development package) that'll allow easier development for the Xbox One in 1080p. Also via NeoGAF we're finding that Microsoft's Sharpening Filter is now gone.

Bolcato suggests that "a new SDK that's much faster" will be released soon "will be comfortably running at 1080p on Xbox One." GamingBolt also shares that Rebellion Games' Sniper Elite 3 is targeting 60fps and 1080p for both the Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

Meanwhile the Xbox One Sharpening Filter is gone. You'll find that Microsoft had – before the update that landed this past week – implemented a sharpening filter for the Xbox One for games up-scaled from 720p to 1080p. This would mean that edges are craggier, lines are tougher, and everything does look "sharp", but not as the original developer intended.

Now without the sharpening filter in place, scaling is given over to the display you're working with and the developer of the game, so to speak, giving you a slightly more "soft" experience. More natural, in the end. This is the end of one whole heck of a lot of "artifacts", as it were.

Above you're seeing Titanfall Beta pre-filter removal. It shouldn't make a big difference as this is 720p native transfer, but have a peek anyway! We'll be creating a couple more demonstrations of this current software build of the Xbox One without sharpening filter in place to let you see the big difference. For now – courage!
