Well, I’m an owner of a new Windows 8 handset. It’s nice although it has one advantage that ZUNE and WP7 didn’t have: MTP support. In Windows 8, I can use MTP applications like MediaMonkey to sync my music. For iTunes, I can sync with the Windows Phone app for Desktop with minimal issues. Playcounts don’t seem to sync back, but apparently they dropped support for that a while back. Still, the music service still sounds great and the music selection is still excellent.

First, thanks for dredging up an old topic. Second, thanks for being so scientific. I mean I could have sworn I was replying to a specific comment, not being generally sweeping. The only company that’s not locking people into anything is currently Amazon.

Lastly Windows is on an unholy amount of machines in this world, for MS to lock anyone into anything is almost criminal. Yes there are alternatives but not on a scale large enough to support the needs of everyone…if that was the case, everyone would be using it.

I guess it a good thing Apple would never try to push people to get the latest version of their products by putting it only on the newest products. I mean Siri and Maps I’m sure will be going to older model real soon…you opinion is already biased dumbass, all company want sells and all of them will offer features the previous models didn’t. MS isn’t abandoning they still are updating and offering the Zune Music.

have a whinge. You buy a mobile, it reaches its EOL and you get a new one with a new OS. I’ve had a HTC Mozart and the Nokia Lumia 800 and both were great phones. The iPhone however broke to easy and the Samsung was a heater that had too many issues with storage. Since everyone I know is now switching to WP8 from their iPhone 4S or Samsung Galaxy devices, I think I’ll stick with what I already knew was a great product.

“Uninstalled” isn’t a meaningful word with respect to IE and Windows, as Microsoft has stated under oath that Windows would not be stable without it. It can be disabled as a user-accessible application, and it can be reverted to an earlier version back to what came with the OS, but “uninstalled” in the sense of removing all components isn’t supported by Microsoft and can cause “unexpected behavior”. This is the case through Win 7; if Win 8 is different, please educate me.

(We all know this is a “feature” as in monopolist’s ploy; but in a corporate environment, at least, you don’t take actions against an OS that are not supported by the vendor.)

I am a WP7.5 (soon to be 7.8) owner, an Xbox live gold member and zune pass subscriber. I bought my devices/services for what they offered my at time of purchase. If Microsoft decided to enhance those experiences with updates great, if not, I’m not going to lose any sleep or throw a hissy fit over it. I am content with what my zune pass combined with with my WP7.5(.8) offers me. For $10 a month I get unlimited streaming of 99.9% of the music I listen to on any device or computer and can download that music on up to 4 devices. The only music I can’t find is rare and obscure bands that other streaming services probably don’t have either.

I am a developer. Software “integrated” into the OS is still just software. It still requires it’s own executable and probably DLL’s. It’s very simply removed and recompiled for the current generation. MS is trying to push people onto the new platform rather than playing to it’s current customer base. Sucks to be them

You’re crazy. I have an iPhone 4 and even with the newest iOS I don’t have Siri, the turn-by-turn map, panoramic shots, flyover maps, and sooooo much more. Even though the phone can handle all of these newest updates, they want people to purchase the newest iPhone instead. They wonder why people jailbreak their phones.

Microsoft chose to not release Xbox Music on Windows 7 & WP7 platform, I think Xbox Music is being considered a feature software that Microsoft want to attract new users with as well as for current users to upgrade to.

I am Zune Pass member as long as that service exists for my WP7 phone, I am cool with it. But, I am also planning to upgrade to WP8 in few months.

Xbox Music is integrated into the OS. Unlike IE, Office, which are stand-alone applications. Typical responses for MS. They try to give shit out for free and people still complain. I guess they shouldn’t release it at all and people would be better off…

Just because Win7 and current winmo phones don’t have the service doesn’t mean they shouldn’t offer it. I mean it’s software, there’s no hardware layer that has to be met. It’s just SOFTWARE.

Typical MS-Hate article. How is it considered “ABANDONING” old windows 7 users when they never had the Xbox Music Store to begin with? It’s a new feature on a new OS. Thats like saying Apple “abandoned” iOS5 users when they came out with iOS6 with Apple Maps. Except in that case they really did, because they won’t release updates anymore for iOS5, but Microsoft will still be releasing updates for Windows 7 until at least 2015, and will be supporting it until 2020.

This is why I will never buy a Windows Mobile product. After getting burnt by the HD2 because it did not meet the specification (somehow XDA magically were able to), hearing about Nokia Windows 7 Mobile won’t be upgraded to Windows 8, and now this.

I would not want a product where the company treats the users like dirt. Enough is enough.
