Xbox lights up with free games for post-Christmas

This week we'll hit the holiday season right on the nose – Microsoft knows this, and they're ready to roll with a number of games that'll be released now or in the immediate future. Of course Microsoft doesn't decide when the games that'll be released for cash will be sent out, but the "Xbox Live Games with Gold" games – that's a different subject entirely. The first bit you're going to want to look at if you have a shiny new Xbox One is "Dark Dreams Don't Die" – also known as D4.

That's not Diablo, but a game about bullets. Should you be rolling with an Xbox One and have a subscription to Xbox Gold, you'll get D4 for free during the month of January. After that it'll be $14.99.

Starting on Thursday of this week – Christmas day, that is – Xbox 360 users will be able to download MX vs. ATV Alive for free. That's a motorbike racing game that normally costs around $20 USD. Starting on January 16th, Xbox 360 users will be able to download The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition for free through the 31st – this game normally costs $30 USD.

These bits are all good inside the United States. If you live outside the USA, they may not be available to you in the same way.

Meanwhile the entire Telltale Games Collection has now been released to Xbox one. This includes two seasons of The Walking Dead, The Wolf Among Us, Tales from the Borderlands, and Game of Thrones. This set of episodic games will cost you $109.99 right off the bat.

Telltale Games is also the group set to create the first Minecraft story mode game. Have a peek!
