So you love your Xbox 360, but you’d prefer it to be more portable.  Let’s hope you’ve got a friend like Ben Heckendorn - widely renowned as modder-extraordinaire - because he’s the man who made this awesome 360 laptop.

Xbox 360 laptop

Complete with all the original functionality, 17 inch HD-compatible LCD display and built in keyboard and wifi, plus water-cooling to allow a relatively trim 2.8″ depth, it’s definitely a labour of love.

Trot over to his build log to see how he did it; don’t forget the photo gallery on page 5!

Xbox 360 laptop rear

  • Uses a 17″ wide (diagonal) 1280×720 progressive-scan LCD VGA monitor (for HD-level resolutions) Thus you can actually read the text in Dead Rising.
  • Water-cooled with custom-built radiator. Allows for a slimmer main body versus the mammoth heat sinks in a stock 360.
  • Built-in keyboard and Wi-Fi.
  • USB hub allows original number of 3 USB ports for user.
  • All-aluminum case, except for plastic keyboard / ring of light / screen control area.
  • Uses single customized “expanded” power supply brick for both screen and Xbox 360.
  • Breakout ports on back allow hookup to component TV, VGA monitor, sound system (analog or TOSlink) and even crummy composite video.
  • Size: 16.75″ x 10.75″ x 2.8″ Weight: 14 pounds (with water loaded)

  4. If only, Dave - you’d have to make Ben a very generous offer ($$$) and I don’t know how keen he is on doing repeats of his projects.

i saw it in xbox 360 magazine and didnt believe it. ben is a true god, all the technical stuff messes me up, cant understand any of it. 3 months is a long time when u think about it. we can only hope that ben will get that email from bill saying, we want you to help us manufacture. but if that does ever happen, ben mite say no, cos then it wouldnt be one of a kind, but he’d be like, uber rich. its a thinker

Wow…I certainly have a lot of respect for Ben. I have been working on reproducing what he did for the last 5 months and finially folks, I did it. The girlfriend treatened to leave a few times, but it was all worth it. I only need to build a suitable box, paint it and assemble (easy stuff now).

Ben cettainly does make it look easy. I definaly had my fair share of problems as I went along the way. Word of advice…do not try this without a extensive amount of electrical manufacturing experience and patience (not to mention the $$$ that you might waste if it doesn;t work)

Now with that being said, I was looking to get it ready to sell. Originally I was going to keep it, but the GF wants it gone. Any takers? MAKE ME AN OFFER. I can prove that I infact do have the machine in approx. the same size case and in full working condition. rangeside@hotmail.com.

I don;t imagine that it’ll be in my hands for long as a few of my friends have already wanted to buy it, but didn;t have the cash.
