Say we have something like…Xfinity….
…would we get all the channels we have on that on the Xbox TV, or is that just the on-demand part?

If cable providers went a la carte they would be sure to have those individual channels priced at such an unreasonable price that you almost have to choose the full package. They are in the business of making money, not pleasing customers.

Let me pick and choose to subscribe to individual networks like HBO and ESPN at a reasonable price, then I may be interested. I don’t want 500 channels to sift through and I don’t want to pay $80 dollars a month for cable were HD is extra and $20 dollars added for taxes.

Exactly, it is not an ‘attack on cable’ when cable providers are providing the content. I was hoping Microsoft was providing it instead and it would compete on price and features, e.g., a la carte.

How is the Xbox TV offering an ‘attack on cable TV’, when the content is being offered by way of a cable network, i.e., Verizon and Comcast (forth-coming)? According to Verizon’s website, the service plan costs nearly the same if not identically so as its other plans. Aside from the improved interface and convenience of having everything delivered through the Xbox 360, how is it different when the cable providers are still controlling the content we can watch via this service and the cost is similar?

When it was first announced a year or more ago, I was hoping for an ideal scenario where Microsoft would provide the content itself (independent of a particular cable provider) and you could subscribe to channels a la carte. This doesn’t seem to be this case, though it may be as no detailed article has been written on the topic; only as detailed as listing the provider and channels.

I think your XBox 360/Cable cord cutting poll should have one more choice:

“No, I’ve already cut the cord and I’m happy with my current solution.”

If this was an optional answer, I would have participated… Many of us have Roku boxes, Apple TVs, Google TVs, Boxee boxes, connected blu ray players, etc and have no real interest in adding another box–especially one that potentially makes as much noise or sucks down as much power as an XBox or PS3–to be on all the time just for media consumption purposes.

I was hoping this would be a REAL attack on cable, but it seems it’s just another streaming box. At least from my USA perspective, I see nothing really new here that isn’t available on other boxes I already have (Tivo + PS3). Am I missing something?

What’s more, if it’s really an attack on cable, why are Xfinity and HBOGo listed – both require cable subs, I’d imagine…?
