I love my Xbox 360, I’mno fanboy, as I love all of my consoles equally. Well, except for my old Sega CD, but I’ve made peace with that. Despite my love for the console, I do worry quite often about the dreaded RRoD. What I don’t worry about is my power brick dying on me. Apparently I should.
How long do you think the warranty lasts on your power brick? The console itself is covered for a year (up to three in many RRoD cases), so since the power brick is required for the console to even power on, it must be covered for the same length, right? While it is not explicitly stated anywhere I have seen, they are apparently considering the brick to be an “accessory” as it is only covered for 90 days.
One customer found this out the hard way when his console’s power brick went south. He talked to Microsoft regarding his warranty and was told that since his purchase was from six months ago (well outside the 90 days of coverage) he would need to pony up $80 for a new one. Seriously Microsoft, why would you only provide a warranty for 90 days on a required piece of hardware? I hardly consider the power brick to be an accessory.

Ya, that does suck. Im happy Sony decided to put the “power brick” internally in the ps3, because then its covered under warranty. Which (no offense), kinda shows how Sony is the better hardware maker. Considering the rrod is from overheating, therefore melting the motherboared, Sony can put the power brick into there console and still not have it overheat.
I dont want to sound “fanboyish”, in fact Im quite jealous that xbox gets gears of war 2! But i cant buy a product that can take a month to fix while my Xbox Live account gets drained of its worth.

MS is not a hardware company, sony is so you would expect sony to produce better hardware, specially after three atempts.
By the way you get a free month of live if your xbox gets rrod, so your live account doesnt gets drained.
NeutralConcidering it’s a 2nd atempt fro MS into consoles market where playstation was the “god”, they are doping excellent even if sony does outsell them worldwide in total units sold by the end of the life cycle.

Not wishing to bash… and its only a shot for your article.. but everybody knows your not supposed to put your 360/power adapter down on carpet.. they have hard enough time dissapating heat to melt ice caps without the added insulation of carpets.. just a pointer for ppl reading..

My kids are crazy about xbox. Everytime I have to shut their TV down. I always believed xbox is addiction and now scientists got proof of it :) . But all in all great console , much better than playstation (yes i like xbox).

Thats messed up, MS should put a warranty on the Power Brick, prob. 1 year. I also agree that 360>PS3 but the PS3 will get better this year. PS3 does have better hardware (although I own a 360), but MS is getting better. The faliure rate went down 33 percent to 16 percent(I have not got the RROD). Right now the best system out has to be the 360 though.

r u guys kiding me? comparing the hardware capabilities, the PS3 leads far ahead… xbox no matter wht is upgraded, is never going to be as reliable a hardware as PS3…
NeutralMS is still like in ‘trail n error’ session in gaming industry whereas Sony knows wht it has to do… :)
