Xbox 360 LOVEFiLM Instant app gets Watchlist and new UI update

Xbox 360 owners subscribing to Amazon's LOVEFiLM on-demand movie service can now get the same enhanced Instant streaming system that their PS3 peers have been enjoying since May, as the Microsoft console gets the new entertainment update. The refresh brings support for the LOVEFiLM Watchlist – effectively a queue of titles the user wants to see – to the console, in addition to new and improved search functionality.

Amazon rolled the new LOVEFiLM Instant app out to the PS3 a few months back, promising at the time that it would subsequently extended to the Xbox 360 and Wii U, among other platforms. The update also brought HD streaming to Sony's console, though the Xbox 360 has had HD support for LOVEFiLM since May 2012.

However, the other key features of the update – such as the "optimized user interface" and the new recommendation engine – are carried over to the Microsoft console. There's also better integration between different devices logged into the same account.

So, now the Xbox 360 app's homepage lists what shows were being watched most recently, as well as how far through viewers were. That also includes content that was being watched on other devices, making it easier to pick up from where viewers left off, even if it was elsewhere.

The new Xbox 360 LOVEFiLM Instant app will be available to download from Xbox LIVE from today, Amazon says. Those with a Kinect sensor are also be able to control the app with voice commands and gestures.
