Um, not sure why exactly you say Android is better for video viewing?

Because of Android's fragmentation, Netflix and Hulu Plus for example are still not available for the majority of devices and without a platform wide DRM architecture, most video providers still don't provide viewers for the platform.

In addition, a large proportion of Android devices are completely incapable of high quality video playback due to poor GPUs not to mention low quality screens. My brand new $79 pre-paid Huawei X1 with only a 320x280 2.8" screen is absolutely pathetic and it is these very cheap Android phones that make up the majority of Android sales around the world.

What this shows is that iOS devices are used far more than Android devices and thus far more important for developers, advertisers, content providers, online commerce, media providers and consumers in general.

Let's give you some more web browsing stats if you you don't believe that particular stat.

ComScore's recent Device Essentials Report shows iOS with far higher web usage than Android (53.1% vs 35.6%) in the USA and even higher in other countries (83% in Canada and Australia, 72% in Germany, 60% in the UK).

NetApplications similarly shows iOS 3.4x larger than Android and growing faster.

StatOwl, Global Counter, W3Counter, WebMasterPro, Net Market Share, Clicky Web Analytics, AT Internet and WikiMedia all report that iOS has between 2.22% and 5.15% of global web traffic compared to Android which only has between 0.5% and 1.84%.

Oh and all Android browser agents all identify themselves as Android by default. Your average consumer is not a geek and does not change these settings.

Seems like a suspicious survey. Specifically, where's the PlayStation 3 in the mix? Not only has it supported Netflix for years now, it has consistently been rated one of the best Blu-ray players since it updates itself.

What an ignorant comment. Sorry to break it to you but iPhone & iPad are not as good as android devices when viewing video. The fact they are dominated the market in video as shown above is because people buy more iPhone & iPad, not for video but because of other reasons (premium quality, smooth & stable OS, lots of apps, etc) Since they already have these devices would they go out & buy android just to have a little better video experience? I know I wouldn't.

So iOS are better consumers? That's all that reads to me. 3/5 of your figures were 'purchasing' something, the last specified tablets for business which is irrelevant to the topic of the behavior of Android users.

I browse quite a lot. But from what I remember about the numbers you have on browsers, those numbers aren't correct as many/most browser user agents identify themselves as iPhone or Desktop agent. All my usage reports as a desktop browser.

What you mean is iOS is the most popular video player in the country by a very large margin.

iOS = 56.6%
Xbox = 28.2%
Android = 15.2%

Why is it that all Android devices are grouped together as are all Xbox models and yet iOS is separated out into separate devices. Are they truly trying to hide the dominance of Apple's iOS platform or something?

What this demonstrates yet again is that iOS completely dominates Android in just about every market and metric despite the larger smartphone Marketshare that Android has managed.

What do people do on their Android devices? They browse the web only a third as much as iOS users, purchase goods online only 10% as much as iOS users, buy only 17% as many apps, purchase only 16% the number of games, activate only 2.7% as many business tablets, etc etc.

It really seems to be the fact that most Android phones are cheap and nasty models that are only good for use as dumbphones making Android unit sales Marketshare completely meaningless.
