Funny, I’ve been telling people the exact same thing for more than a year now.

Nokia N73 and Motorola A1200 had voice commands earlier – you’re right. I was talking about integrated speech-to-text, not voice commands. Android was first.

I don’t recognize the Newton as a tablet since it was just a PDA. But, if you want to qualify the Newton as a tablet then it still wasn’t first behind many others like the Linus Write-Top.

One mans bias is another ones long term worry.

That said, i do not trust either Apple or Google long term. But at least with Android one do not have to use the Google services. But with Apple one basically have to go all in to get anywhere. Sure, there is the jailbreak option. But that is a cat and mouse game. With any sane Android device it is a matter of checking a single tick box, and one can dump in individual APKs or a third party downloader with no problem.

Btw. I am unsure if Apple would have had the iOS upgrade path that it has, if they did not basically recycle last years top end model as this years budget model. If they had instead adopted the common market behavior of releases a whole range each year, i don’t think there would be much different from the upgrade “issues” we see with Android. Hell, until Apple got in the game nobody blinked an eye that there was no updates.

Apple didnt create Siri. Apple just bought them out and intergrated it into the iPhone 4s (eventually all iPhones) and Apple is still trying to fully intergrate Siri with the 4s. Thats why its a beta still.

I think that what you should get out of this is that, as opposed to the other Steve, this Steve thinks that there is room for both platforms, even though he stands behind the product from his company. (i.e. no one has to go thermonuclear) With the fanboys from both sides raging I’m impressed with his maturity

If you were trying to play off logic from the article then you have that backwards. Personally, I’d have agreed with the way you presented alpha/beta here up to about 2yrs ago. Around that time Android and its devices have lead innovation in the market without an Apple-first relation.
