By comparison, Nintendo earned a profit of about $638.83 million in the same time frame in 2010.”The article in PCMag goes on to detail the struggling sales for botht he 3DS and the Wii. Seriously though, take 10 seconds to search “Nintendo Sales” and read a headline or two.

There were some exceptions to this, but man, Sonic had some really bad games after going to other platforms. Sonic the Hedgehog for 360 and PS3, for example. That game was extremely glitchy, which was most likely due in part to being on hardware that Sega didn’t know well.

And yes to answer the final question: No, I will not play Mario on other consoles, I have a Wii, a DS and a 3DS, they provide their own fun experience to play with. 

Nintendo’s about fun and enjoying the game, not about caring about stupid specs.

Why yes they do indeed, but does it concern me? No it does not as it does not have any discernible added cost for consumers. I would of course prefer if open standards such as compact falsjh were more widely used than SD. But SD at least is in common use(and supported by Nintendo). Sonys proprietary memory cards on the other hand. Not in wide use and add considerable cost to consumers, not to mention compatibility issues and vendor lock in. In relation to DVDs, there is no open standard unfortunately.

OK so lemme get this straight.  This guy is trying to compare post Sega hardware 3D Sonic games to MARIO AND ZELDA ? ? ? ? ? ? ?  I can think of four critically lambasted 3D sonics, can you name one single comparable example of ANY, ANY 3D Nintendo franchise ?

This guy talks about Nintendo losing ground on hardware, and of course fails to mention booming 3DS sales.  The PSP 1 is outselling the Vita in Japan right now.  Now don’t get me wrong, I loved my PSP before it was stolen and Vita does look really good.  But people hate on 3D and it baffles my mind.  I absolutely love the 3D effect in games and videos.  How is adding a third demension to games a gimmick, but better graphics/reverse touch panel aren’t gimmicks ?  (I think the reverse touch panel is a pretty cool idea.)

To prove I’m not a total Nintendo fanboy, let me state I think the Wii U looks like a terrible mistake.  Current-gen specs, gimmicky controller that doesn’t even have analog triggers, not interested myself.  Also, There ARE some critically acclaimed post Sega hardware Sonic games, including Sonic Unleashed, Sonic Colors (Wii and DS exclusive,) and personally I liked Sonic and the Secret Rings for Wii.  Also I thought Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 were underrated.

But the Nintendo 3DS has a million Exclusive must play games.

Plus the 3DS sold 3.6 Million systems in the first 1 month sells, in comparison to the PS3 that sold only 1.2 million in the first 6 months sells.

So the 3DS is already beating the PS3 & X Box 360 in how much more faster it’s selling systems.

And also in 3rd Party support.

Even the Game Boy Advance sold more better than the X Box Original & 360 & PS2 & PS3.

Both Sony & Microsoft can’t even compete with the sells records of the Game Boy Advance, let alone Wii, let alone 3DS.

And the 3DS is already the #1 most fastest selling video game System EVER!

I love Zelda and Mario, especially the old-school versions!  Nintendo could increase their revenue streams by creating versions for other platforms.  Frankly, they’re Nintendo is crazy for not opening this revenue stream earlier!

As long as Nintendo makes hardware, I’ll buy it. Owned every Nintendo console since the Super Famicom (SNES in Yankspeak). It’s not just blind loyalty; I really did enjoy the gaming experience. No one may have bought the Gamecube, but I had great fun playing Pikimin and Metroid at the time.

Buy not a Xbox. Definitely not. I’d consider playing Nintendo games on a Playstation or iPad/Android tablet, but definitely not something made by MS.
 

I can’t see how avoiding a game, especially one in a franchise you love, just based on its platform makes a particularly good bit of sense. But like I said, it’s completely your prerogative.

And I’m saying this as an avid Nintendo fan. I love Nintendo to death. But Nintendo really could, quite easily, find themselves in the same position Sega did after the Dreamcast. The difference is that Nintendo always sells their systems at a profit, no matter how poorly they sell, and regardless of software attachment. So they will have a long run or two left in them, at least, before they reach that point.

That said, the author of this op-ed did get one thing wrong. By the time this happens, he won’t be going to GameStop to buy Mario or Zelda for his Xbox 4 or 5. He’ll be digitally streaming them and GameStop will be all but dead. :P

Brand exclusivity (on the part of gamers I mean) is naive and foolhearty in my opinion. These companies don’t care about us as individuals or about our “loyalty.” They only care that we line their pockets. We get (hopefully) great games out of the deal. It’s a mutually beneficial arrangement, but it’s only sentimental on our end, not theirs.

I play good games regardless of the platform they’re on.

Do I have to explain it again, I only buy Nintendo because there is no other choice, if Sega were still around I’d be buying. If somebody else entered the market I would be buying. My buying Nintendo has nothing to do with Nintendo. Which really goes against everythign that defines a fanboy. But anyway I keep forgetting its going by your narrow definition of only restricting gaming to consoles and the current generation. Forget all your other sources of gaming they do not exist!
As for morality, on the basis of the evidence we have, yes yes they are. But once again provided with evidence they are not(after all this is all we can base out decisions on) I would happily say goodbye to Nintendo.
Wait sorry I’m a fanboy, so when Nintendo start removing features from machines people own, or installing rootkits on peoples machines, or insisting on not supporting standards and using proprietary memory cards, or insists on placing such restrictive DRM on their products that you cant even listen to music you recorderd yourself from your own collection on a pc, or gets convicted of being a monopolist , or refuses to support open graphics standards with the sole purpose of creating vendor lock in, or starts bribing standards bodies heads and flooding standards bodies votes with supports to get dodgy standards approved so they can continue to control governments spending by vendor lock in, while never actually implementing send standard themselves. The list goes on and on and on When Nintendo is doing these things, being a fanboy I will of course turn a blind eye.
 

Did you read what I wrote? I’m not assuming anything I followed on from your phrasing, for amusement. But since somebody like the comment I can safely say yup I was speaking for somebody else :) can you say that? Nope.

Since when does “more often than not” mean nothing to do with? It doesn’t it means more often than not. But heir gaming devisions are not without blame, far from it. Also how does the actiosn not being a part of the gaming division in any way excuse them. If I oppose the actions of one division I oppose the actions of the company as a whole and to support the gaming division would be to support the company as a whole.

Simply pointing out that I do find some of Nintendos actions unacceptable(but nothing as of yet has come close to Microsoft or Sony), something a fanboy would not do.

 Perhaps the choice of the word, definitely, was the wrong one. I shall rephrase it, I believe they are.
I sure as hell can’t think of any that come close or have had such a negative influence on the tech world. There is a huge amount of evidence out there for their wrong doing(by wrong doing I do of course refer to the things that I personally find to be morally wrong, although in some case yes they were illegal).
As for NIntendo? Well I happen to opperate on a innocent until proven guilty basis. Operating on the assumption that all corporations are evil and doing wrong would make operating in everyday life pretty damned difficult. That does not imply however that i trust them blindly and constantly assess any company I am supporting actions. If evidence emerged that Nintendo(or any other company whos products I was buying) were acting in the same manner as these two companies I would happily and enthusiastically stop buying their products.
