IE was the best thing to happen to technology. It held the web back long enough for netbooks to be viable for basic web browsing, which made $500 computers viable, which drove tech prices down from the rather absurd prices they were at before.

Even though the web is now the most demanding application on most computers, you can still get a system that handles it for under $500, and that's thanks to IE.

Regardless of how beneficial fragmentation is to handset makers, I prefer to develop for non-fragmented platforms. It takes far more effort to develop a game for Android than for WP7. It doesn't matter if Android is a brand or not.

It's my call, since I'm the developer. I make money on my WP7 game, whereas those I know who develop for Android do not.

No to ALL of it. The fragmentation is a huge part of what makes the smart phone market so competitive.
The fact that a mobile phone shares the basic brand of OS should in absolutely no way determine the features or quality of the phone it self.
Android is NOT a brand. It is just a set of tools, for developers and manufacturers to work with.
As you may know, the same tools, do not guarantee the same result.

And it shouldn't.I think you completely misunderstood what Android phones are!

I know programing for IE is a pain in the
ass, but if people are getting more interested in the platform (WP7) you have
to develop for it, no matter how hard, complicated or out of standards it is (IE).
Even now we have to take special care when programing for the web because IE
still widely use, and I agree with you HTML5 should be 100% but not all developers likes web programing!!!

Have you tried IE9 on Windows Phone? You should actually use a WP device before you pass judgment. Those developers want to develop for it for a reason, and if you don't know why then you are to mixed up in this current day and age of mobile tech, and soon you will be out of touch, and just like those guys who are still stuck on BB. I'm sorry if I came off like a jerk, but I would just like you to understand that times are constantly changing and the market will never stay the same. If you don't understand something, or are not familiar with it that doesn't mean it's bad.

Now, what Windows Phone device did you use that gave you the bad taste in your mouth, so bad that you don't think it's worth developing for? I have the Samsung focus and I think it's a really good device, and in some ways superior, compared to many other smartphones I've used. Can you give me more examples of the things that you think make WP not worth it? Just interested in your perception. Thanx

Thanks for hearing me out dude!

You may not like to hear this, but not everyone is like you.

I definitely like HTML 5 web, but I prefer native apps to web apps, especially on mobile devices.

I agree with you on BB. I wouldn't bet much on their future.

I actually prefer to develop for windows phone over android because of its lack of fragmentation. It doesn't have anything to do with IE.

HTML5 Web should be 100%... shows the lack of foresight from developers.

and as far as BB, there won't be much developer interest until they have a launch date for BBX phones..

I also can't believe developers are supporting Windows phone.. IE has been the worst thing to ever happen to the internet and been a horrible hurdle for web developers since its inception. Now these developers want to develop for it?
