yes … Windows Phone 7 is a start, or restart of the really bad OS they had.
We need to remenber the 10 years of bad, bad, bad phones.
Apple apears with iPhone and .. everyone starts doing things.
This is called Inovation to Apple. the others, the copies.
Well … i have all 3. Iphone 4, HTC with Andoid 2.2 and WP7 HTC also.
They all have advantages.
iPhone is solid and fast, with so many nice and useful apps.
Andoid and WP7 integrates better facebook and others, so you see your online info faster. this is nice.
Andoid market is not good. Many apps with no aproval at all with many bugs.
WP7 still soon to say, they only have 5000 apps …

Is WP7 i’m happy to believe that UPDATE will work.
I use Windows mobile OS since .. many years .. and it was a joke the update option.

Having owned both an iphone and a windows 7 phone i think my opinion is more of that than the “fanboyism” that normally pops up in these comments.
The iphone is a very capable phone and does what it does amaxingly well. However when it came to upgrade time in my contract, the latest iphone 4′s had progressed enough for me to warrent signing up for another 18months. Yes it has a fantastic screen and now has face chat and a 5mp camera front and rear.. but apart from that it does nothing new to my previous phone.
Now i jumped the gun and bought the HTC HD7 without reading reviews and with out waiting for my contract to end, which im still stuck in.
and from the moment i first turned it on i was amazed by its speed, its easy to use interface, and the very easy learning curve that came with it. It doesnt take a week and a day to turn on, every press of an icon is instant and your not left waiting around, and a simple press of the windows button gets you out of anything instantly.
Now im not saying th phones perfect, im not a huge fan of zune, give me ipod/iphone any day for music, but that ill have to live with. Also being a mac user, the beta software for the file transfer is a little basic but it did its job, however iv since dual booted with windows 7 to correct that.
But the main point here is that microsoft have made a solid Os from the start. Ive not thought to myself many times “oh i wish it would do this/that/other” apart from copy/paste, and the adding of custom ringtones.
So from that im hoping this update thats coming soon will build on that soild foundation and make the Os even better than it already is.
The only real bug bear i have is that the integrated social network side of it doesnt have a notifications function. I dont want to have to open up the facebook app evertime to check if someones said something or commented on my post ect..
but thats just me =)

I agree! I get stuff done quicker with my HTC Surround, and end up doing random things just to do something :) I am really happy with WP7. Its runs faster and smoother especially for someone using exchange email, to me it feels more finished than choppy Android (ex owner of 3GS, Torch, Captivate)

Totaly agree, I own an Omnia 7, and the funny thing is that because the phone UI and how you do stuff using this new operating system are so addicting, I sometimes wish the phone won’t let me get out of it so fast as I want to spend more time using it, I even sometimes just scroll around doing notihng just to look at it !!!!!

i wouldn’t say “struggling”, they’re pretty happy with their computer business and make a ton of money from it. They purposely refuse to compete in the low end market, so they’ll never have sales in comparison to $350 HP laptops at Best Buy. They’re concerned about selling computers, yes, but as long as they’re making MONEY off of what they’re doing, they seem to be OK with that.

I’ve recently acquired a HTC trophy with WP7 and am too hoping the next update to WP7 contains things like copy/paste and custom ring tones. I was skeptical when I saw the promo videos explaining that the OS is supposed to help you get on with life – but after a week of use I am beginning to believe it. I don’t use the phone that much, but when I do, I get all of the information I need pretty quickly due in part to the live tiles and facebook/windows live integration.

I live in australia,sydney and tried to buy samsung omnia i8700 wp7. I have checked about 20 outlets selling them and they all sold it out. I could not find one wp7 to buy in the whole sydney!!! But i was lucky to find one on ebay and very happy with it.
Ps. Just a reply to some comments like “who needs wp7 phone” and so on

My htc surround is the best phone ever. Built well and has the cool speaker.
The operating system is so fast and the live tiles let you view updates on email and social networks without having to go into the app. Gets me into and out of my phone so much faster.

That might be true, but I grew some serious respect for microsoft when they released WP7. I may be wrong, but it seems that they completely scrapped their failing Windows Mobile Software and started anew. I have serious respect for any company, especially ones as big as Microsoft who can set their ego aside and start over when they know they’ve failed the consumer, and with WP7, that’s what they did.

I’m not hating on apple here, but the same could be said about Apple, who took several iterations to get to a product that has an integrated camera, especially when dinky non-smartphones, were packing in the megapixels long before Apple decided to grace the world with a camera………………I’m just sayin!!!???

Microsoft is not trying to emulate or copy Apple in anyway! Copy/paste and multitasking is on every phone and it was inevitable for WP7. (in other words Apple didn’t invent Copy/paste, multitasking or even the idea of Apps. They are the things that smart phones need to be smart).

Chris Walshie shouldn’t of said it that way, cos now all the apple fanboys will start talking cr-apple. YES! WP7 is still behind in the race and might have a few bugs. But it has new stuff like “live tiles” and hopefully have Adobe Flash and Microsoft Silverlight soon.

I have an iPhone but will be getting a WP7 or Android next!! …just waiting on more reviews and more pennies. :P

Microsoft is excellent at “leaking” these types of rumors that serve to freeze consumers around christmas buying time. It leads some to consider buying an MS product that isn’t quite as good as the competition yet with a reasonable expectation that an upgrade is coming. It also makes some considering purchasing a competitor to hold off until the upgrade is out. it serves to hype their sales and dampen their competitor’s sales.

then they can fail to deliver after christmas is over and no one notices.

I agree with Mitch. MS mostly they copy other’s success. WP7 has potential but they are starting the race now while other racers are in the 20th lap.

Apple actually doesn’t innovate that much, they just simply do it right and more pretty. Lately, lots of tech companies just try to emulate Apple, and that says a lot.

I also have WP7 phone, I love it way more than my iphone because I can go all day without charging even with heavy use.. and once they add these features it will be even better.

Isn’t Microsoft just reintroducing multitasking to WP7 like it had in WinMo 6.5? How long did it take to add multitasking to the old Windows Mobile? Microsoft has been in the mobile game much longer and has little to show for it, yet they point at Apple and Android?

You can’t say nobody is buying WP7… I have one and I love it. Just this year I used almost all the major OS including the Torch which is the best phone in the market when it comes to email management. I used the iPhone 4 was very disappointed drop calls, promitiy censor goes off and on… Had the Nexus One and Galaxy S Android by far is the best OS on the market. I think MS can build on top Windows Phone 7 metro UI its refreshing and good to look at… I can’t want for the update on my HTC Surround.
P.S PLEASE MICROSOFT MAKE A REAL YOUTUBE APP NOT REROUTING TO THE MOBILE WEBSITE.

I will preface this comment with the fact that I am an iPhone user. I use it. I like it. I would consider a different handset if I felt that it integrated into my life/systems better. None has yet.

With that said, touting that Microsoft “took 3 months to do what Apple did in 3 years” is simply a ridiculous statement. Microsoft saw the backlash Apple took over the multi-tasking and cut/copy/paste issues. That means they had the same 3 years (plus the time SINCE Apple adopted these) to get such things into Windows Phone 7. The fact that they did not have these at launch was a huge failure in the minds of many tech customers. This was Microsoft throwing out yet another not-ready-for-prime-time product with the promise of “better things to come” once they worked out the logistics/bugs.

I have seen a lot of things to like in the Android universe. I have seen Microsoft rebound nicely from the disaster that was Vista. But it is stuff like this that just makes me scratch my head. Apple may have it’s faults (Steve needs to leave PR to the people he pays to handle PR!), but I still think they are offering the best products on the market in many aspects. Maybe other tech companies should stop looking to be the next iPod/iPhone/iPad Killer and simply put better R&D into being true competitors. That is what will keep the tech market alive. Not emulating the last “best thing”.
