I own the pictured HP tablet running Win7. Unless MS does a MAJOR rework of the OS Interface, Apple can get some sleep. The targets for finger-based clicking and selection are just too small in Windows, and the gestures work only sometimes. MS not only needs to redo the OS interface, but the applications have to be reworked as well — that ‘s a big ecosystem that needs to change course. A pretty frustrating experience (currently), especially when compared with iOS.

If they some how manage to keep windows 8 on tablet compatible to windows desktop ecosystem with a good tablet UI. The apple or google appstore is just a speck of dust in the windows programs ocean (Of coz if we ignore the enormous engineering challenge behind it ;)

A few years ago, Bill Gates kind of rescued Apple financially. But sadly now, Steve J is dying of cancer. He is the brain behind Apple’s success. With Steve J soon to be gone, I predict a slow down fall of Apple. Sigh :(

nope the windows name is just ok. I believe the new acronym being windows 7 and up will work. Now for tablet will be Windows tab 8 which WP7 and Windwos 8 will follow and will make the whole synergy complete

You mean all the while the market will “fragment” into multiple tablet devices as it has already started to in the 4th quarter of 2010. Just the introduction of the Galaxy Tab and a few others reduced the market share by over 20% in the last quarter. The serious contenders are only just now starting to hit the market.

It will be a fairly wide open field in the enterprise space were anyone that has excellent functionality and interoperability with enterprise/server environments will have a very good chance of success. Apple still has a LOT of work to do to actually lock down that market. They are nowhere near having any sort of lock on it right now.

I wouldn’t count them out yet, I’m no fan of Microsoft, but with the amount of resources they have and the fact that the majority of people use windows. If they can successfully make windows into a tablet friendly OS they will likely get a good share of the market.

Sadly Microsoft is so far behind Apple, it’s unlikely to ever become a presence in the tablet market. Given Microsoft’s history, I shudder at its 1.0 release: there will be some good things, but it will take another nine months for the engineers to correct the big problems. All the while Apple increases its lead.

If MS is smart, they’d release a version of Windows 8 that supports dymanic UI scaling, so it can run on phones, tablets and PCs.

And depending on the environment it detects it should should switch the UI, like Atrix, docked? Go full Windows 8, undocked? Switch to the phone UI.
