Problem is (for Microsoft)...not all of that "awareness" is positive. Overpriced, slow to evolve, lack of unprompted innovation, proprietary are just a few of the perspectives many have about the company. Not to mention MS has had their hands in the mobile market years before Android and even Apple, yet they are just now attempting to play catch-up. Personally, I come from having had a few WinMo phones - my last being an AT&T (HTC) Tilt2 running the OS's 6.5 "version" (not much difference in the OS over the years compared to the competition) - before making the jump to Android in 2010 and have no intention of ever going back. IMHO, Microsoft has a lot of work to do to reinvent itself in all areas of personal computing h/w to stop the bleeding of customers looking for alternatives. To be fair, in the game/media console space their Xbox 360 has had a much more positive image associated to it.

He definitely has a valid point. Google really needs to do a whole lot better job advertising, instead of posting little adds on its network and relying on word of mouth. Also, Google could benefit from a dose of device integration. right now, Google has the operating system part of tablets and phones finally figured out, in a unique and very good way. however, on the PC side of things, it is still all Microsoft or Apple on the vast majority of machines, with Google products running as apps. IMHO Google should really start working on a port of Android for PCs and integrate the best features of Chrome OS into it. Such a system would allow for a common platform to exists across a wide array of devices, all with similar controls, capabilities and interconectivity. I see no reason why an Android computer couldn't quick boot right into Chrome (and take advantage of Chrome OS built in features) while the rest of the android systems finishes booting in the background. users could benefit from a single code base, better battery life, device integration, common app ecosystem and user interface. heck, if Google threw its weight behind Libre Office development and integrated it into Google docs, it could really give Microsoft a serious headache in its two biggest businesses.
