Microsoft isn't forcing anything on users. For gaming technology to stay ahead, it cannot always work on every previous version. There has to be a cut off point. The same thing happened with Windows 7. You don't expect Xbox 360 games to work on the classic old original Xbox console. The latest version gets the best stuff and at the very least gets it first. If it can be retro-fitted to Windows 7 it will be.

On that, we can agree. However it's MS that's pushing studios to use DX. And now trying to use that leverage to push the consumer into Win8. I'm personally fine with ignoring games designed to use the newer DX until it's available for a platform that I own.

Killer App! The latest version of Direct X is a killer app for Windows 8 (and it's not the only one, either).

Gamers do not hesitate to upgrade to get the best games and the best gaming experience when the time comes. After the usual period of initial slow update of any major new OS, this selling-point alone will drive a steep adoption curve for Windows 8, just as it did for Windows 8.

This news has already made the rounds on gaming websites and forums, and gamers are as eager for this as any other significant progression of gaming technology.

I guess that means games will still be developed with DX10...oh wait that's right they are because dev houses don't like DX11. MS needs to pull their heads out of their rears and recognize that their draconican hold on DirectX is only hurting them.
