Windows 10 Mobile finally descends on select BLU handsets

BLU Products might be better known for its wallet-friendly Android smartphones, but, yes, the company does have a sizable roster of Windows Phone devices. However, thanks to Microsoft flip-flopping on the rollout of Windows 10 Mobile, not all of its devices were deemed worthy of the Redmond's update. While Microsoft whittled BLU's list down to only two devices, customers might find them fortunate that three of BLU's Windows Phone devices will, in fact, get Windows 10 Mobile after all.

What could have been Microsoft's big break in the smartphone market turned out to be quite a dud. Windows 10 Mobile would have truly bridged the company's mobile and PC worlds but it is hampered by the slow rollout of updates and the limited number of eligible devices. Microsoft initially promised to make Windows 10 Mobile available to many of its Lumia smartphones, but cut that number down considerably by raising the minimum requirements. For example, 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of storage is the bare minimum as far as memory goes.

Those requirements would have been a big blow to BLU, whose products indeed teeter over the low end to keep prices from skyrocketing. In fact, Microsoft official list only includes variants of the BLU Win HD and Win HD LTE. Luckily, BLU's Windows 10 Mobile announcement added the Win Jr LTE, which doesn't actually meet the minimum. Hopefully that's just a clerical error.

BLU's Windows Phone users, especially those with a Win Jr LTE. should probably consider themselves lucky. Microsoft's commitment to pushing out Windows 10 Mobile to existing devices hasn't exactly been reliable nor reassuring. It is already bad for its own Lumias but arguably worse for third-party OEMs. HTC's previously premium Windows Phone device, for example, is noticeably missing from the list, despite actually meeting the technical requirements.
