Mankind for years has studied the benefits of touch. Touch activates certain endorphins in the body.
Physical qwerty keypads are, for the most part, easier to use and look better as well as preferred.
If a person has big fingers, i.e. thumb, the use of a virtual keyboard is much harder to use.
Whereas a physical keyboard was much easier.
The other issue is the sensitivity of the screens on the virtual keyboards, some feel that they are too sensitive.
Less mistakes are made on the physical than the virtual keyboards.

There was a study done about this between the iphone and another phone, not listed, which had a physical keyboard.

The results, although not surprising, were the participants using the physical keyboard were much happier with the use and worked faster.

The results of the study is found here:

I guess I read too quickly and didnt see about making the agument for keyed vs nonkeyed keyboards… here I am to correct my error. Please dont hate me :).

The easiest and simplest way to make this apparent is just by touch feel alone. I can type on any keyboard with enough familiarity WITHOUT LOOKING AT IT. How must faster am i than trying to use a keyless phone without ANY feedback? Tremendously faster. The tactile response of a real key is much more important though, it provides the sure knowledge that what you typed is what you get, whereas with a keyless phone you have to visually inspect the phone to ensure that the key you wanted was actually input. That irks me to no end. KEYS ARE MUCH BETTER :).

I have been using PDA’s since the HP200LX, and for me the choice has always come down to one thing – tactile feel. And for me nothing has the tactile feel of actual raised keys that individually depress.

I do great with my current Psion Revo and iPaq 4355 and Palm Tungsten C, but struggle with the keyboard entry on the Dell Axim x51 or iPod Touch or even DSi.

I don’t know if it is ever possible to simulate such a thing, so until then my preference will always be ‘real’ keyboards.

I personally prefer the physical qwerty because I have been using a keyboard most of my life it’s easier for me The Virtual keyboard is nice if I’m not in a hurry. For some reason I find it a little slow. I can use both and have, but it’s much quicker and I am more efficient on the physical keyboard.

I personally prefer a physical QWERTY keyboard. I like to feel the keys going down – assuring me I have actually typed something. Thank you for the opportunity to participate in this giveaway!
