Since the Wii was released I have had a burning question in my mind, why can’t it play DVDs or CDs? It’s a feature that seems so simple and basic that we almost take it for granted. The Xbox 360 and PS3 can do it, and the Wii reads discs, so what’s the deal Nintendo? A cryptic response to FAQ leads me to think that they may have found the error in their ways.

Wii

If you check out the official FAQ for the Nintendo Wii, you’ll see the following question and response:

Q: Can the Wii console playback music CDs and DVDs?
A: The Wii console released in the end of 2006 does not have the feature to playback music CDs or DVDs.

Why would Nintendo go through so much trouble to let us know that they are talking about the Wii that was specifically released at the end of 2006? My only thought is that there is going to be a new model released in the near future, and that particular model will have the CD/DVD playback feature.

  1. That particular FAQ has been there since the Wii launched, why is everyone talking about it now!? Just because of this update!?
