Do you not realize that you are making an apples to oranges comparison? The picture quality of streamed video is not comparable to Blu-Ray and I highly doubt that of DVD either. Believe it or not people do still buy music, and video on physical media to obtain the higher quality. As for downloads, most movies are also highly compressed, unless you are actually downloading a full DVD or BR rip.

Ignorance breeds arrogance.

most DVD's I buy now are kids movies so they can watch them in the car or on plane more than home. if the Wii U gets Netflix and maybe Amazon VOD channels I call that a win (Vudu would be a feather in their cap)

I am still rocking my 1997 Sony DVP-7000 DVD player why would I need the Wii or any other machine to duplicate that functionality. it is a game system, surfing the web, watching netflix are just icing on the cake. plus the extra license/hardware for dvd/blu ray would only add to the cost of the console and folks are already worried the controller is going to be expensive. how much longer is physical media going to be around anyway for the home(in car entertainment probably dvd for a while longer, but I doubt that will ever go blu ray)

I'm undecided. Although the irony of having a remote-like controller but no DVD playback always gives me a chuckle, I can see their point. Even if it came with the capability, most people would probably use something else. Netflix probably gets them more brownie points with users than DVD playback nowadays (or in the near future) anyway.
