In what could be some very, very bad news for Nintendo and millions of hopefully Wii buyers, a report has surfaced that the Wii’s sensors are so sensitive that they will cause the console to shut down completely in the presence of sunlight. sensor bar to stop functioning correctly in the presence of sunlight. While it’s unlikely that anyone is going to be crazy enough to keep their Wii in direct sunlight, the fact that a simple shift of the sunlight in a room could cause your Wii to stop working as intended might lead to a bunch of very angry Wii owners jumping ship elsewhere. Let’s hope Nintendo gets back to us on this issue ASAP, so that we’ll know if the new consoles require a dark, secluded room.

Direct sunlight makes it impossible to see a TV screen anyways, so I seriously doubt this will be an issue for anyone.

Very true, but just the fact that a simple shiuft in sunlight can cause the entire system to shut off bugs me a bit.

I think they mean *extended* exposure to sunlight, at least I hope they do!! Though most gaming/tv setups wouldn’t be in direct sunlight for any long period of time… at least they shouldn’t be!! They’re going to have to clarify this situation quick-smart I think….
Still getting one though, no contest : )

Agreed; I’ll keep it in a dark room if need be, but I still think this is the best option available for the next-generation of gaming.

    Plus, Zelda and Mario.

There’s a new Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles game, and Wikipedia’s Wii game list as a number of “untitled” RPGs due out from a series of publishers.

So, there will be RPGs, but we won’t know how good they are until they come out.

Seems like this rumour is getting more and more out of control with each passing news article.

    This is silly.
The system will not shut down in sunlight, but the control may not function. Think about it logically…why would sunlight cause an actual system shutdown? No matter how sensitive the sensors are it will merely be like running low on remote bateries…the control may stop working, but the sunlight will not magically flip the off switch.

They do NOT -=–shut off–= the sensor bar merely becomes less sensitive when exposed to -direct- sunlight. JEEEE-sus CHHHHRIIIIIIII-st what IRRESPONSIBLE fact checking!

if the sunlights is causing the controller malfunctioning, it is as good as shuts off…
