I have performed warranty service repair work for a Vizio contractor, I was kept pretty busy replacing main boards because of faulty capacitors. Most problems showing up too close to the end of warranty period. I WOULD NEVER BUY ONE OF THESE TVS. You get what you pay for, IMHO.

I had purchased a Vizio 52 inch earlier this spring (i think april or may) when my last tv's picture went out, and so I decided to jump on the LED bandwagon as it was the "in" thing earlier this year before all this 3DTV crap, and let me just start off by saying, my Vizio died within the first 3 months! It was repaired it with warranty, I forgot what was wrong, but it was some component the repair person who came to my house did not have on hand and had to order... it took about a week to get the part in, another appointment to be scheduled for it to be repaired... then a while later the remote died and was swapped out with another warranty call, and to finally top this off, the front panel/trim on the TV is splitting and separating from the edge (i had to use a piece of black duct tape to mend it... didn't seem worth going through the HASSLE of getting it repaired through warranty once again, not sure if this is due to Vizio's cheap build quality or a result of it's repair...

Anyways, due to these little nagging quirks including some hdmi lag with my set top box when you turn it on, probably also to do with addition to a longer TV start up time; which i never experienced before with my previous Philips TV (or a Sony in another room with same model set top over HDMI)...

I have to say, the one importaint thing you may have overlooked is when you pay extra for these larger company products.. not only do you get the best in features (who cares if inputs or accessories lack).. you are paying for QUALITY... I am confident if I went with another Phillips, Samsung, Sony, Hitachi, Etc... I wouldn't have had to do two warranty repairs within a few months of ownership and wouldn't be annoyed at staring at a blank screen when I push the power button on the remote for a good amount of time until the picture shows up!
What's worse is sometimes when you press the power button and are staring at a blank screen, if i'm not paying attention to the led light on the TV or the screen input prompt doesn't show up in a timely manner... sometimes I press the power button a second time because it makes me think I didn't press the power button correctly, SO WHEN I DO END UP PRESSING IT A SECOND TIME, IT ENDS UP SHUTTING DOWN! and forces me to WAIT EVEN LONGER UNTIL I CAN TURN IT BACK ON!

To this day, i regretted buying this TV.

If you are Cheap, and are upgrading from a NON LCD/LED/PLASMA big screen TV and/or this is your first large flatscreen TV, I would say, yes, Vizio is a great buy!

But if you are upgrading from a big name large flatscreen tv... I have to recommend to stay AWAY from Vizio or be prepared to be disappointed!

let me just put it simply in these words: I enjoyed my 4 year old 46 or 48 (i forget what it was) inch Phillips LCD TV FAR GREATER than my 1/2 year old Vizio 52 inch LCD TV!

I own a XVT 552 (the one they advertised during the Superbowl last year) and love it. Netflix is smooth as glass and i have it plugged in hard wired to Ethernet. Remote is clunky but it works. Picture might not be rated quite as high as some Samsungs but I can't tell the difference. The TV is heavier and thicker than some others but for the money you can't beat it.

TV's are like hot tubs. You go into the store, and see all the bells and whistles, and can hardly imagine not picking up the best one... you NEED it! Just gotta have the one with the 70 extra jets, the TV, and the waterfall. Only once you get the thing home, and actually start living with it, it hardly matters which one you bought as long as you didn't buy one with a fundamental design flaw.

As re: TV's... some are bad enough to make a difference, but honestly you'll rarely be able to tell from the store, since most retail stores apparently have no idea how to set the picture correctly on those things. Brightness = MAX doesn't equal all that much consumer info.

A little research to avoid the real lame ducks, and other than that, it hardly matters, unless you're really willing to pony up the serious big bucks for a small percentage improvement.

Don, I haven't tested this particular set, but if 3D is an important consideration, I would go with plasma. The LCD sets I've seen have all suffered from bad motion blur which isn't too noticeable on animated movies (the usual demo fare for 3DTV) but is extremely problematic with sports. Perhaps Vizio has solved this - as I said, I haven't tested this particular set.

I purchased a "budget" VIZIO and I have been very, very happy with it thus far. It was one of the low end models (hey, I'm in college) and it features auto-dimming, has a much better picture than similarly sized/priced models and handles all my inputs.

Honestly, I was very worried about the quality of the machine, but I love it. Great product.

I couldn't agree more! I did replace a couple Tv's with Samsungs that are used in a unique environment where 1 inch was all I had in terms of space. I have an older Vizio in my bedroom I want to replace but I only watch it about an hour a day and it is always at night. Every time I turn it on I am amazed how clear the picture is and it isn't even LED! My first 120 Hz tv was a vizio and people would come over and I would show them this tv and they would be amazed. Then I told them it was $1400 and they were more amazed! Vizio is hard to beat and I think you would be hard pressed to really notice a lesser picture quality as the lump of money in your wallet is sticking in to you!
