I see increased usage in mobile devices, I think it is a mistake for HP to give up. Their marketing strategy is not right for the WebOS Touchpad device in the very beginning – the timing, the pricing and the options are not very competitive. HP is a great company, however, this time it made a mistake…

I think the problem was HP tocuhpad was released without any option. No HDMI, no SD slot etc. Ipad can get away with it but if you want to compete with ipad make sure include some option which are available on other android pad.

I own four HP personal computers which I use in my business as a lawyer. I was really looking forward to obtaining a 64 gig Touchpad because the federal courts around here prohibit laptops but allow tablets. Ah, well, I suppose that Apple or some other real competitor will fill the void sometime soon.

The HP management is a bunch of idiots if they don’t recognize that they would have needed years to grow WebOS to the level of IOS and Android.

The problem here, as I see it, was that HP’s strategy with WebOS was doomed from the start.

HP continued to release handsets and tablets basically in the US only (with staggered releases in some other countries….WebOS tablet was released in Australia 4 days ago). This meant that their market was always limited, and the ecosystem was not developing. In today’s global environment, you need handsets/devices in the hands of “champions” around the globe, with these champions making apps and pushing the pros of devices in all corners of the world. You need the internet blogs and chatrooms talking up the benefits – not saying “I don’t know what you are talking about – I can’t buy a device where I live”. US consumers don’t just visit US websites, and vice-versa for the rest of the world.

The unfortunate truth is that HP didn’t back WebOS properly, and caused its own destruction – regardless of what it really believes. And now – it is too late. “Dead man walking”….

Key Issues:-

1). Branding. HP should have kept the iconic “Palm” branding on all WebOS products. The average Joe could relate as opposed to some “HP thing” – what is it? A Windows device, an Android, some strange custom HP thing?
2) Quality – the quality of hardware needed to improve. This would have been possible with a future generation product. Software – less bugs on release. (see 4)
3) Developers. HP needed to foster the developer community more.
4) Time. HP needed to be in this for the long haul – not expect some miraculous turnaround in a few months.

In summary, it feels HP are pulling the plug early on an iconic brand and a great OS. Hopefully HTC/Samsung pick it up for a song and give it a new home with more respect.

I just païd $21.87 for an ïPad 2 – 64 G.B and my boyfrîend loves his Pänasoniic Lumíx GF 1 Camera that we got for $38.76 there arriving tomorrow by U P S.I will never pay such expensive retail prices in stores again. Especially when I also sold a 40 inch L.E.D T.V to my boss for $657 which only cost me $62.81 to buy.

My hat is tipped to Apotheker. He saw the handwriting on the wall and made tough decisions. Three years from now HP will be an even larger force in enterprise computing and the Cloud with high profit margins and with no low-end business to drag down results.
