I'm puzzled as to why paying for TV still necessitates that I be subjected to watching commercials of any kind. Why isn't the $100+ a month I throw at Dish sufficient for my access to be commercial-free?

Oh how I long for a commercial free service that lets me pick my channels a la carte.

The difference here, though, is a large one. It's the difference between analog and digital. It's the difference between having to fast-forward and being able to skip to the next scene. If you truly feel like the ad is relevant and interesting, then you'll watch it. If not, you should be able to skip it easily and at no disadvantage to yourself (eg. Hulu's black screen of shame).

In fact, the ads that constantly hammer at and annoy me are more likely to create negative brand image, meaning I'll be pissed at the ads and therefore buy another company's stuff.

Like the early cable days, online TV has fewer commercials. You can use TV software services like the one from the TVDevo website and get pretty much the same thing streamed straight to your PC. You
can also connect your PC to a TV screen and wind up with the same thing for a ton less money and commercials.
