And I guess the HTPC is just chopped liver.

Don't get me wrong, I love all the wonderful things I can do on the 360 and PS3 - especially on the 360, because the interface is more remote friendly and locating new content, even the 1080p flicks on the new and improved Zune Marketplace is a snap. But all that aside, when it comes to end-all, be-all of entertainment devices, nothing beats the HTPC (or any good PC for that matter, with an HDMI port and plenty of harddrive space).

We can talk about consoles all we want, but even a cheap PC offers every entertainment option you can on a console, and then some. And with features like digital TV tuners and DVR capabilities, tons of DRM-free content, not being locked to any one company's 'ecosystem' and home media server, video game mods, etc., there are still tons of entertainment options available on an HTPC that you simply cannot get on a game console. Add a remote and the entertainment dash/software of your choosing, and you'll never care to have anything else plugged up as your all-in-one entertainment device.

Again, not knocking the consoles - I do love my consoles. Just that this entire article is a bit premature. Try it again in another console generation or two, and by then it may be spot on the money . . . well, except for the DRM-free entertainment, and being locked into a single company's "ecosystem" bit, that is.

All is good until the day you plop down and want to start fragging, but, your PS3 is due for an update. 6 minutes later, you fire up your game and, guess what? Another update! SUPER! Ten minutes after you sat down, your beer is already gone and you might actually be able to play a damn game. Stupid PS3. (I love mine with this exception, pisses me off when I bust a quick game.)

you can get most files to play on a PS3 right off a flash drive. mkv files won't play right off the bat...but for those I just stream them from my computer right to my PS3 and there's no issues. Yeah there are other ways to convert the files and blah blah blah but to save time I just stream them...easy as 1-2-3. I slapped a 750GB HD in my PS3 and have tons of music and movies and pictures. I can stream them and copy them right over or just connect my external HD/flash drive and boom...done. WIth Bluray and 3D and free PSN the PS3 def. wins over the 360.
