White Xbox One release official with Sunset Overdrive

This week the folks at Insomniac Games and Microsoft are bringing the heat with some low-key news on the next bundle for the Xbox One. It'll be a White edition, a version of the console only previously released to employees. This version will be branded with Sunset Overdrive fare and will have the game included in the box as well.

The game is set to be released on October 28th, 2014, so we'll expect the bundle to come right at the same time in North America. This version of the Xbox One has not been priced at this time, but given previous releases, we'll expect costs to be between $399 and $499 depending on if the game can be sent up in digital form.

There's a new Xbox One Madden NFL 15 Bundle out this week that includes a digital version of Madden NFL 15 and no Kinect sensor which will cost you $399 USD. There's an Xbox One Forza 5 bundle that's been on the market for a while which includes the Kinect and a physical version of Forza 5 which costs $499.

UPDATE: Curiouser and curiouser – Microsoft has just returned our message with the following. Maybe not so official (yet) after all!

"We have nothing to announce at this time." – Microsoft spokesperson

While it's possible this version will come with Kinect, what we've seen of Sunset Overdrive so far does not appear to require it. Because of this, we'll be guessing the bundle will cost closer to $400 in the end. Polygon spoke with a company spokesperson from Insomniac Games and suggested that the console would look similar to the employee version of the original Xbox One.

This likely means the machine won't look too similar to the fanciful SDCC version of the console which was almost certainly a one-off release. It might be too much to expect a white Xbox One with orange splatters around its edges.
