I don't think it is reasonable to characterize Loeb as a "whistleblower" here. It's not like he stumbled across this lie, agonized over whether to publicize it, and now needs protection against Yahoo. No, he rooted around for dirt until he turned some up, and then started flinging it around (not just at Thompson), in order to achieve his pre-existing goal of getting rid of Thompson. Given that he was advocating for the removal of Thompson before this came up, I don't think it makes any sense to pretend that this is now his reason. He wanted Thompson out, he still wants Thompson out, this is just a convenient excuse. If it wasn't this it would be something else.

That said, lying on your resume at this level shows poor judgment and a lack of integrity. So maybe Thompson should get the boot. Perhaps Loeb is even correct that Thompson's leadership was not right for Yahoo (I have no opinion either way on this). My point here is about the coverage, not the conclusion.

Ford Chillins: What a nutcase. You need to put your tin foit hat back on, your brains are oozing out. If you think that about Flickr, then it's with brass bells on for just about every other aspect of the internet, because about 40% of traffic is porn. So you'll need to rant about Cisco, because they make routers that carry that traffic. And your own ISP for the same reason. And Google, who probably allow search to that same porn. Microsoft's, Apple's and other browsers are "friendly" to porn. You need to go after the standards bodies who brought us MP3, MPG, .WMV and every other video and sound format for allowing porn. And American Express, VISA and Mastercard who provide the ability to charge for it.

What's wrong with porn, anyway? I can tell you're the uptight type that won't look at it, but I bet your wife has to...

wow , you'r fucking retarded aren't you? Anywhere the general public is capable of sharing images has and will have porn. It is just the way it is. Face reality and keep your fucking kids away from it if you don't want them to see a titty. After all that is YOUR responsibilty as a parent.

Instead you want companies and/or the goverment to monitor all communications and censor what you do not see fit? Really? Destroy free speech so you can avoid facing the responsibilty of being a parent?

There's a place for that. It's called Iran. I am sure they would love to have you.

It's funny to hear so many Yahoo employees making these judgements of ethics when they really don't have any. The thing is, all of Yahoo is part of a huge lie. That lie is the total and complete misrepresentation of their photo sharing social network, Flickr. For over 7 years Yahoo has gotten away with misrepresenting Flickr as something it's not. What's more, all the media, and politicians using the platform for PR have been a big part of the lies that forfeit any opinions being expressed condeming Thompson's ongoing fib.

This is because on the outside, Yahoo's Flickr is presented to the public as a work-safe, family friendly place to let anyone 13 and up share photos with others. The real truth is, that under the charade created by slick algorithms and ongoing PR malarky, Flickr is a huge pron site hosting tons of people that share that adult content knowingly with children, without much suspicion by anyone.

Obama, Romney, and a slew of others like most of the Texas government have no problem with the fact that this gross misrepresentation has afforded Yahoo's Flickr the right to bypass filtering and flow right into grade schools and libraries, and most of all, into homes of trusting parents, fooled into thinking Flickr is safe.

Only one person has ever come out and called Flickr what it really is. That is Nicholas Carlson of Business Insider. His article last year tells the real truth. Nobody here will share that truth with you, so they are part of the lie too.

When confronted on it the other day, all C-Net's Steve Shankland to say was, in typical response, "so what? It's what the internet is all about anyway." But we are not talking about any typical adult website, we are talking about Yahoo. A company that is trusted by millions of people to do the right thing, honestly. That's why so many of their advertisers baulked when confronted with the truth.

That is why everyone at Yahoo is a liar, just like their CEO, and just like these media people are too. Freedom of speech is one thing and we don't care much about the pron either way. It's the huge, accepted lies that bother us, and the hypocrisy that dominates our society in places like this.
